Southbridge Savings Bank company history timeline

1880

Through the depression of the 1880’s, First National continued to grow under the watchful eye of Judge Post, a highly respected attorney.

1882

In 1882, W.A. Sharrar joined forces with other local York businessmen to establish the First National Bank of York.

1910

Savers Bank was founded in 1910 by a group of forward-thinking citizens in order to encourage thrift and regular savings, and to make individual home ownership possible.

1911

By 1911, Judge Post helped establish the First Trust Company, an affiliation of the First National Bank.

1957

Ralph Misko served as president following the death of J.R. McCloud in 1957.

1976

During this time, Levitt purchased the remaining McCloud stock and served as Chairman of the boards of both First National Bank and First Trust Company until 1976, when he sold First National to Robert V. Jones, C.G. (Kelly) Holthus and Marion Bonham.

2008

In the midst of the financial crisis in 2008, David gathered a group of local board members together to raise the $9,000,000 in capital and completed the necessary operational and regulatory requirements to establish the Bank.

2009

Since opening in 2009, CornerStone has grown to be the second largest bank in the Rockbridge County, Lexington and Buena Vista market.

2014

Grist epitomized the essence of a local bank president and served in the role of Founding President and CEO until his death in February of 2014.

2017

Cornerstone Bank was formed in 2017, and was built on the foundation of two local, mutual banks joining together—SpencerBANK and Southbridge Savings Bank.

2019

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, the tenth anniversary of the bank’s founding, the CornerStone Bank Headquarters building was dedicated in his memory.
