Southcentral Foundation company history timeline
Southcentral Foundation’s first compact agreement under Public Law 93-638 began in 1984.
A funding request to provide substance abuse treatment service was added in 1987.
Gradually, Southcentral Foundation increased its compact agreement capacity within the Anchorage Service Unit so that by late 1994 it was administering nearly half the primary care services for Alaska Native people.
The Alaska Native Medical Center opened its doors in May 1997.
SCF listened to this feedback and started the process to create the Traditional Healing Clinic in 1997 by hiring Rita Blumenstein, who explored how traditional healing could be integrated into the accredited medical environment.
In 1997, Southcentral Foundation completed the assumption of ownership and management of primary care and other programs located in the Anchorage Native Primary Care Center.
By 1998, ANMC’s transition to Alaska Native ownership was completed with its transfer to the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and Southcentral Foundation.
In 1999, Southcentral Foundation and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium signed an agreement to take over ownership and management of the entire Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC).

In fiscal year 2015, 49% of SCF’s income was through third-party payments, 43% was through a grant with the Indian Health Service, and 5% was through grants.
