* Effectively communicates pertinent information with supervising physicians, nurses, sonographers and other physiologists and ensures communication with referring physicians as needed.
* Evaluates and performs stress testing of outpatients and inpatients; including, exercise tolerance tests, stress echocardiograms, dobutamine echocardiograms, metabolic stress tests, exercise nuclear stress tests, pharmacological nuclear stress tests.
* Performs Pediatric stress testing. Exhibits knowledge of testing protocols and proper equipment usage for pediatric patients.
* Provides patient information, explains testing methods and procedures, and obtains patient consent

* Ensures recordings are of the best quality for diagnosis according to departmental practices and procedures.

Evaluates, plans and performs treatments to alleviate physical dysfunction using manual, functional and physical agent modality techniques. Participates in departmental activities to assure smooth operations and facilitate program enhancement.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Administers therapy evaluations and develops treatment plan for physically, developmentally and/or functionally disabled patient populations, including infants and children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics and frail elderly, inpatient and outpatient as assigned.
2. Analyzes and interprets data and assesses individually current functional ability. Researches specific problems as required and makes a differential diagnosis when appropriate. Consults with physician regarding any contradictions or alternative forms of therapy. Assesses patient's progress, as related to their rehabilitation potential.
3. Provides individualized treatment plans designed to prevent, restore, remediate or compensate for movement dysfunction including therapeutic exercises, progressive ROM, neuromuscular education and strengthening, manual therapy, cardiopulmonary conditioning, wound care, application of physical agent modalities, and functional mobility training. Evaluates need for bracing, supportive and positional equipment.
4. Educates patient, family and other caregivers in therapy program and goals. Participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, assists with discharge planning. Documents care provided in medical record and completes therapy billing.
5. Completes departmental statistics. Assists in maintenance of orderly, safe and efficient working environment. Assists with inventory and purchasing as assigned.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from accredited PT school or equivalent.
2. Current license to practice physical therapy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. New graduates and out of state licensed physical therapists are
expected to obtain Massachusetts license within 6 months of hire date. Will need to work under the direct clinical supervision by a licensed physical therapist and have all notes co-signed until license has been obtained.
3. Successful completion of National Physical Therapy Board Examination.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology or related field (or equivalent combination of education and/or related work experience).
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three months in a hospital setting as an exercise physiologist or in Cardiac Rehab setting.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
* Work requires knowledge to effectively utilize the Electrocardiograph, and stress testing procedures, medical terminology and basic sciences such as Physics, Math, Anatomy and Physiology.
* Good interpersonal skills to explain procedures to patient, and alleviate apprehensions, as well as effectively interact with physicians, fellows, nursing, etc. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Compensation Range:
$22.36- $31.25

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Administers therapy evaluations and develops treatment plan for physically, cognitively, developmentally and/or functionally disabled patient populations, including infants and children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics and frail elderly, inpatient and outpatient as assigned.
2. Analyzes and interprets data and assesses individually current functional ability. Researches specific problems as required and makes a differential diagnosis when appropriate. Consults with physician regarding any contradictions or alternative forms of therapy. Assesses patient's progress, as related to their rehabilitation potential.
3. Provides individualized treatment plans designed to prevent, restore, remediate or compensate for movement dysfunction including therapeutic exercises, progressive ROM, neuromuscular education and strengthening, manual therapy, cardiopulmonary conditioning, wound care, application of physical agent modalities, and functional mobility training. Evaluates need for bracing, supportive and positional equipment.
4. Educates patient, family and other caregivers in therapy program and goals. Participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, assists with discharge planning. Documents care provided in medical record and completes therapy billing.
5. Completes departmental statistics. Assists in maintenance of orderly, safe and efficient working environment. Assists with inventory and purchasing as assigned.
6. Delegates caseload to therapist assistants, overseeing quality of care and supervising performance. Collaborates with team members to assure patient coverage and equitable work distribution.
7. Participates in department quality improvement/assurance activities and program development initiatives.
8. Supervises students according to Practice Standards.
9. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives
10. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
11. Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.

Position Summary:
The Physical Therapist assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative programs that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and decrease or prevent deformity of patients suffering from disease or injury.

The Physical Therapist II demonstrates strong clinical knowledge and skills in the evaluation, treatment planning and care of patients with physical dysfunction. This advanced clinician participates in activities that support self-development as well as the development of the department and others within the department, UMMHC and/ or the community. Performs advanced clinical and non-clinical duties including treating complex cases, educating staff and assisting with department leadership.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Administers Physical Therapy for physically, developmentally and/or functionally disabled patient populations, including infants and children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics and frail elderly, inpatient and outpatient as assigned.
2. Examines and evaluates patient's physical therapy needs. Formulates a physical therapy diagnosis and develops a treatment plan with treatment goals directed towards maximizing function. Completes documentation that evidences a high degree of clinical knowledge, attention to individual patient complexities and needs and modifications to treatment plan to assure best functional outcome.
3. Delegates caseload to therapist assistants, overseeing quality of care and supervising performance. Collaborates with team members to assure patient coverage and equitable work distribution.
4. Meets and often exceeds department standards for productivity, timely completion of clinical and non-clinical documentation. Attends to details in meeting timeframes for patient care in relation to patient's need and overall plan for hospitalization or insurance rules and authorization procedures. Demonstrates high level of commitment to patients and position through excellent attendance, efforts to improve processes, and willingness to extend beyond normal work hours when necessary to meet patient or department needs.
5. Acts as a clinical resource for a designated clinical population or functional unit. Researches clinical protocols in specialty practice area to evaluate outcomes, assure evidence based practice and up-to-date procedures. Presents results of research to clinical staff and oversees staff training when new protocols are implemented.
6. Educates patient, family and other caregivers in therapy program and goals. Participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, and assists with discharge planning.

May act as resource to medical team via consultation in clinic, participation in patient care rounds or provision of in-service education to non-rehabilitation departments to promote awareness of Physical Therapy.
8. Is active in orientation of new staff and supervision of students and aides. Accepts a minimum of one preceptor assignment or clinical affiliate / year. Participates regularly in specific orientation of new staff in area of clinical expertise.
9. Participates in implementation of quality assurance program for clinical service, including routine chart audits to assure compliance to protocols, review of staff documentation and clinical activities to mentor improved performance and / or improve clinical or business processes.
10. Assists in implementation of triaging, prioritizing, monitoring admissions, referrals, and discharges to and from the service as assigned.
11. Develops own clinical knowledge and skills through participation in professional organizations, attending continuing education programs, seeking advanced certification, peer review and other related internal and external resources.
12. Participates in special interest group or committee within the profession, department or hospital in order to promote staff education and program development. May present at community, state or national conferences to represent Physical Therapy.
13. Assists in proper care and distribution of department supplies and equipment, making recommendations for adequate inventory and appropriate and new equipment.
14. Volunteers for a minimum of one community service activity per year, and may lead divisional activities to support UMMHC community service commitments.
15. In the absence of the clinical supervisor, assumes duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.

Evaluates, plans and performs treatments to alleviate physical dysfunction using manual, functional and physical agent modality techniques. Participates in departmental activities to assure smooth operations and facilitate program enhancement.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Administers therapy evaluations and develops treatment plan for physically, developmentally and/or functionally disabled patient populations, including infants and children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics and frail elderly, inpatient and outpatient as assigned.
2. Analyzes and interprets data and assesses individually current functional ability. Researches specific problems as required and makes a differential diagnosis when appropriate. Consults with physician regarding any contradictions or alternative forms of therapy. Assesses patient's progress, as related to their rehabilitation potential.
3. Provides individualized treatment plans designed to prevent, restore, remediate or compensate for movement dysfunction including therapeutic exercises, progressive ROM, neuromuscular education and strengthening, manual therapy, cardiopulmonary conditioning, wound care, application of physical agent modalities, and functional mobility training. Evaluates need for bracing, supportive and positional equipment.
4. Educates patient, family and other caregivers in therapy program and goals. Participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, assists with discharge planning. Documents care provided in medical record and completes therapy billing.
5. Completes departmental statistics. Assists in maintenance of orderly, safe and efficient working environment. Assists with inventory and purchasing as assigned.
6. Delegates caseload to therapist assistants, overseeing quality of care and supervising performance. Collaborates with team members to assure patient coverage and equitable work distribution.
7. Participates in department quality improvement/assurance activities and program development initiatives.
8. Supervises students according to Practice Standards.

1. Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from accredited PT school or equivalent.
2. Current license to practice physical therapy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. New graduates and out of state licensed physical therapists are
expected to obtain Massachusetts license within 6 months of hire date. Will need to work under the direct clinical supervision by a licensed physical therapist and have all notes co-signed until license has been obtained.
3. Successful completion of National Physical Therapy Board Examination.

* The individual in this position must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development, which would include neonates to the oldest old. In addition, the therapist must demonstrate competency in assessment and treatment relative to age specific needs for the patient population for which they provide therapy, and as described in the department's practice standards.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide competent, compassionate physical therapy care based on scientific principles, physical therapy knowledge/education, and clinical judgement
* Provide Physical Therapy assessment, consultation, recommendations, care coordination, PT treatment, and education to patients with ALS and other neuromuscular/neurological diseases, and their families/caregivers
* Identify, facilitate, and evaluate the outcomes of physical therapy care for individual patients or groups of patients.

* Act as a resource for study staff regarding outcomes and other appropriate study visit and study-related questions per GCP training, PT clinical knowledge, and outcomes measures expertise
* Coordinate and implement research studies according to the study protocols
* Collaborate with PIs and study teams on new studies to ensure timely start-up, and be available to assist the study team with the coordination of services needed to implement the study, as well as be available to assess study progress and problem-solve as needed
* Assess patient participation on a continuous basis in light of ethical considerations. Act as a liaison between the patient/participant and other members of the team regarding patient care activities related to the protocol.
* Work with physicians, nurses, research coordinators, and patients in the selection of and participation by appropriate patients/participants
* Develop, implement, and support systems to promote efficiency, productivity, and operating systems to economize resources
* Facilitate integration of regulatory guidelines to ensure safe practice
* Collaborate with the study team in the development of new research studies, including the use of outcome measures and data form development, as well as participate in PT or rehab-based studies

Job Summary
We are seeking an on call Per Diem Cardiac Rehab Physical Therapist or Exercise Physiologist to help cover vacations, call outs, and staffing vacancies. We are open Monday through Thursday, and our operating hours are 7:00am-6:00pm. We can work around candidate availability when scheduling shifts!
This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside our nurses, dieticians and other physical therapists who specialize in cardiac rehab to develop treatment plans and establish treatment goals for our patients.

* Coordinates/communicates with appropriate individuals, agencies, and institutions regarding patient discharge plans
* Communicates information regarding patients' status and progress to referring physicians, agencies, and third party payers in a timely and accurate manner
* Participates in department led research, including literature reviews, data collection, and completion of ethics/CITI training as assigned
* Ability to monitor and interpret EKG rates and rhythms
* Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions
* Prescribes exercise and explains physiological testing procedures to participants

Job Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
We are seeking a dedicated physical therapist who has experience working with patients with orthopedic impairments and conditions. Staff therapists are expected to work with a variety of orthopedic diagnoses including, but not limited to non-operative and post-operative management of the spine, the upper extremities, and the lower extremities.
Therapists will also treat patients with balance and gait disorders, connective tissue and rheumatologic conditions, central and peripheral vestibular dysfunction, pain-related disorders, and oncology-related sequelae.
Staff Orthopedic Physical Therapists will be joining a team with diverse clinical backgrounds and expertise. Therapists should have an unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Their primary responsibility is to provide patient care in accordance with State licensing regulations, departmental standards, and policies, and accepted professional standards of care. Additionally, we are looking for clinicians who will be able to treat patients with a variety of different backgrounds and identities.
Staff therapists will receive mentorship from experienced clinicians, many of whom are Board Certified Clinical Specialists. In addition to regular collaboration with other rehabilitation disciplines and the multidisciplinary team, therapists will have opportunities for clinical growth through internal continuing education programming, financial support for external continuing education courses, and conferences, as well as access to a formal mentorship program.
Therapists can also participate in a variety of Rehabilitation Department Committees to enhance their professional growth in addition to their clinical care. These committees include: The Community Resource Committee, Practice Standards Committee, Staff Development Committee, Rehab Recognition Committee, Research Committee, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. The Staff Orthopedic Physical Therapist position is an excellent opportunity for a Massachusetts licensed Physical Therapist seeking clinical and professional growth at a dynamic academic medical center.
Primary Assigned Clinical Area: 70 Francis Street, Boston, MA
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Examines and evaluates patient's physical therapy needs. In collaboration with the patient and/or caregiver, formulates a physical therapy diagnosis, and develops a treatment plan with treatment goals directed towards maximizing function.
2. Demonstrates competency in all clinical knowledge and skills specific to the patient case type(s) in assigned area of care.
3. Consults with other members of the health care team to ensure coordination and effectiveness of therapies provided.
4. Assists in implementation of triaging, prioritizing, monitoring admissions, referrals, and discharges to and from the service as assigned.
5. Manages patient caseload assigned.
6. Participates in activities that directed towards increasing knowledge and skill and professional development.
7. Participates in departmental meetings, which help to formulate policies, procedures and program development.
8. Supervises aides and other support personnel as appropriate.
9. Supervises students and other individuals seeking educational experiences related to physical therapy.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must be a graduate of an accredited physical therapy program.
2. Must possess a current unrestricted license to practice physical therapy from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
1. Must possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to manage a diverse patient population of varying diagnosis and case types.
2. Must possess analytical abilities and sound knowledge in Physical Therapy to effectively manage a varied caseload demonstrating sound clinical decision-making and judgment (up to 90% of work time).
3. Work requires up to three months orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with department and hospital policies and procedures, and the specific quality standards of care and competencies, and procedures unique to the assigned patient area.
4. Must possess effective communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with patients (up to 70% of work time), rehabilitation and medical team (up to 20% of work time), and patients' families (up to 10% of work time).
5. Work requires prolonged walking and standing (up to 95% of work time); lifting, transferring, and positioning of patients and equipment (10% - 50% of work time), and the transportation of patients (up to 10% of work time).
6. Work with critically ill patients (up to 10% of work time) produces a high level of stress and mental fatigue.
7. Must be able to work with newborns (if assigned) to the oldest old (up to 20% of the work time). The majority of patient care (70% of work time) is the 18- to 65-year-olds.
8. The individual in this position must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development, which would include neonates to the oldest old. In addition, the therapist must demonstrate competency in examination/evaluation and treatment relative to age specific needs for the patient population for which they provide therapy, and as described in the department's practice standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Works in hospital environments where there is some exposure to blood/body fluids/hazardous materials, communicable diseases (10% - 25% of work time) and unpleasant odors (up to 25% of work time).
2. Work requiring physical effort for lifting, transferring, and positioning of patients and/or equipment (up to 50% of work time) may result in musculoskeletal strain or injury with improper body mechanics.
3. Work requires use of sharp and/or electrical equipment (up to 20%), which could result in, cuts or burns with improper safety.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists with supervision and education of assistants and aides.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Patient charges are entered in an accurate and timely manner as appropriately supported by the medical documentation. 2. Hospital and department equipment is managed in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner.
HOSPITAL WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES: Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position and as established by BWH/Partners; follows safe practices required for the position; complies with appropriate BWH and Partners policies and procedures; fulfills any training required by BWH and/or Partners, as appropriate; brings potential matters of non-compliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate hospital staff.
