Southeast Christian Church company history timeline

1962

On July 1, 1962, about 50 people met in a school lunchroom for the first Southeast service in Louisville’s growing East End.

The church was established on July 1, 1962 as 53 members of the South Louisville Christian Church started a new church in the Hikes Point area.

1966

On June 12, 1966, Bob Russell preached his first sermon at Southeast under the furnace pipes in the basement of a red brick house on Hikes Lane that was the church’s first home.

1967

In 1967, Southeast’s first sanctuary, with 550 seats, was dedicated on Hikes Lane.

1983

By 1983, five weekend worship services were held to accommodate growing attendance.

1987

In 1987, Southeast moved to a new location right down the street from the first church building.

The new sanctuary at 2840 Hikes Lane opened in 1987, but within five years, it was too crowded.

1989

Dave Stone joined the staff in 1989 and stayed 30 years.

1998

By 1998, the church had relocated to – and outgrown – numerous buildings until reaching its current location at 920 Blankenbaker Parkway in Louisville.

2006

Former Senior Minister Bob Russell retired in 2006 after 40 years of service.

2007

In February 2007, Southeast Christian officially released an announcement that it would establish a satellite church in Clark County, Indiana.

2009

On February 8, 2009, the church announced the plans for its third location.

2011

The Oldham County Campus, in Crestwood, Kentucky, held its first service in January 2011.

2017

The next satellite campus was found in an old movie theatre in LaGrange, Kentucky in January 2017, making this the 5th campus to launch.

In 2017, a satellite campus opened in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

2019

The church also opened a campus in Prospect, Kentucky in 2019.

2021

In May 2021, the South Louisville campus launched.
