The original Southeast Missouri Hospital School of Nursing opened in 1928 when the hospital opened.
Cape Osteopathic Hospital opened at 105 S. Spanish in 1949.
In 1957, ground was broken for a new facility on Minnesota Street, just south of Jefferson School.
2. Planned expansion in 1957 was dead in a decade.
The city police station moved into the former church building in 1960.
Ken Steinhoff, Cape Girardeau Central High School Class of 1965, spent half a century in the ink-slinging business for papers in Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida.
The building project hit financial snags and the Chaffee Chamber of Commerce began working on acquiring the hospital in late 1967.
3. Patients were transferred to Chaffee General Hospital in 1969.
When the new police headquarters was built across the street, opening in 1976, the city court moved to Common Pleas Courthouse.
In 1979, The Bulletin Journal ran a story about Chaffee General Hospital celebrating its 10th anniversary.
When it opened in July 1987, it was renamed Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center.
Plans to reopen the hospital-based nursing program as a LPN to RN educational program began in 1990.
4. By 1991, Chaffee General had closed.
The School of Medical Laboratory Science opened in 1999 under the Clinical Laboratory of Southeast Missouri Hospital.
In 1999, the College of Nursing expanded its educational offerings to individuals without prior nursing education.
In 2000, the name of the College was changed to Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing & Health Sciences when the Surgical Technology program was opened.

The Foundation was founded in May 2006 as a 501 (c)(3), not-for-profit public charity governed by a volunteer board.
In 2006, the Medical Laboratory Science program joined the College of Nursing & Health Sciences.
He retired in 2008 and has been spending time scanning hundreds of thousands of images because “photos once taken as news have grown enough whiskers that they’ve become history.”
SoutheastHEALTH has been recognized by Press Ganey for outstanding achievement in improving the Rate of Hospital (0-10) score by 60% in 2019.
Only hospital in the region and among only 9 in Missouri to achieve this ranking Named to Newsweek's 2021 list of Best Maternity Hospitals
