Southeastern Community College company history timeline

1964

February 6, 1964 SCC was chartered

February 17, 1964 College Board launched

Southeastern Community College was founded in 1964.

1965

1965 Courses began and were held at community high schools.

1966

1966 Construction began on SCC’s Campus, All temporary facilities were isolated to Chadbourn campus.

1967

1967 First Degrees Awarded: 51 Associate Degrees & 43 Vocational Diplomas, First entering class on new campus.

1968

In 1968 internal unrest developed as the result of a controversy around liberal arts and vocational/technical educational division which resulted in the replacement of Mr.

1968 First Associate Degree Nurses Graduated, Cosmetology, Agri-Business, & Diesel Mechanics Programs were established.

1971

1971 Summer Semester Established.

1972

These programs eventually were moved to the Southeastern Campus in 1972.

1973

1973 SCC began offering the Emergency Medical Technician program through the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services.

1974

In the fall of 1974, land was purchased for the construction of College facilities.

1974 Police Science Program Established, Began offering night classes at Brunswick Co.

1975

The 28,000 square foot facilities were constructed, and classes began meeting at this location in 1975.

1977

1977 Criminal Justice Degree offered which evolved into current Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET), More buildings were added to the campus to accommodate growth.

1980

In fall 2003, there were 635 students enrolled in distance learning courses. It first offered distance learning courses in 1980.

1982

1982 The Emergency Medical Tech training was expanded to the EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic programs.

1986

1986 Small Business Center & Library Opened.

1989

1989 EMT-Defibrillation Program was established.

1990

Since 1990, three new buildings containing approximately 30,000 square feet have been constructed on the South Campus.

1991

1991 Partnership with Brunswick Electric began.

1992

In the fall of 1992, Union Electric Company provided a landscaping plan and the materials and plants to landscape the entire South Campus.

1996

In the Spring of 1996, the remaining South Campus modular structure was demolished, and construction began on Emeritus Hall.

2003

In fall 2003, there were 635 students enrolled in distance learning courses.

2005

In 2005, residence halls were established near the Keokuk Campus and the Center for Business (CBIZ) moved from the West Burlington Campus to the newly renovated River Park Place at 610 N. 4th in Burlington.

2007

In 2007, with direction from President Doctor Beverly Simone, SCC purchased a student residence facility in Keokuk.
