PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
The Utility Machine Operator is responsible for operating various production machinery as assigned by the Supervisor and according to the daily production schedule. Safely operates corrugated converting equipment including the Window Film, Flatbed Die Cutter and Curtain Coater machine ensuring high-quality corrugated packaging and products are produced at a consistent rate of speed within established machine standards, production goals, and customer specifications.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safely start up, set up, operate and perform necessary machine adjustments in a consistent manner while adhering to required safety, quality, and production operating procedures
Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines; uses situational awareness and actively looks for weak signals to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions; consistently wears appropriate PPE for the task at hand and within the assigned area; immediately notifies Supervisor of any unsafe condition that exists
Actively performs all SCT Quality procedures including required quality checks and obtaining required approvals; works with machine crew to continuously monitor production to ensure quality standards are consistent and meet customer specifications
Continuously monitors machine operation to detect any malfunctions and identifies defects or deviations from quality standards; performs machine adjustments and troubleshooting to correct defects
Records defects or non-conforming items appropriately and notifies Supervisor or Quality Manager; ensures that finished products with defects are properly scrapped and discarded while consistently following procedures to minimize waste
Performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance as scheduled on machine, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged parts
Troubleshoots issues or malfunctions with machinery and performs minor repairs when possible.
Actively communicates issues with machinery to the maintenance technicians and works together to troubleshoot and resolve issues while minimizing downtime
Accurately records and completes production notes for each job including start up time, down time, finished goods produced, raw material usage, waste, etc.
Provides guidance, instruction, and assistance to machine crew to ensure product is meeting quality standards and within the run speeds and goals established.
Communicates with upstream and downstream internal customers effectively to improve safety, quality, and efficiency of production; effectively communicates with the following shift regarding status of jobs, machine issues and other necessary information
Actively seeks and adopts new updates and improvements to processes, new procedures, and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation
Responsible for maintaining machines, equipment and work area that are within GMP and GFSI standards; assists the Food Safety Team in ensuring that product meets or exceeds GFSI standards
Maintains a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and supplies in accordance with the 5S system
Window Machine:
Safely feed corrugated sheets into feeder section of window machine to ensure a straight and smooth flow of product
Utilizing attachments, perform machine adjustments when necessary to achieve proper windowing; adjust stacking section to ensure blanks are stacking uniformly
Print job sheets, load and WIP tags; perform routine cleaning and maintenance including cleaning belts, drums and replacing film
Flatbed Die Cutter:
Safely start up and set up flatbed die cutter, pile turner and conveyor system
Inspect each die and properly plug dies into machine; set up turn table and ensure accurate alignment to the sheet size
Safely position corrugated sheets into the feed section; turn table and flips sheets ensuring removal of any defective or non-conforming material
Curtain Coater Machine
Measure dimensions of corrugated sheets and ensure sufficient wax supply in coating container
Safely operate wax coater pump and properly feed sheets into the curtain coater
Accurately record job details, job number and paper weight before and after waxing; perform periodic quality checks of wax using oil drop tests
Review job ticket instructions prior to each run; ensure all necessary items and information is provided to produce job per customer specifications; verify raw materials are correct and accurately match the job ticket description
Operators may cross trains in other areas or on other machines as needed and perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
AUTHORITY: Must have the ability to lead a crew that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and written instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one year experience in a manufacturing or production environment including 3-6 months of machine operation experience; experience in a corrugated plant is preferred. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize computer software. Requires mechanical aptitude and skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

Packaging Responsibilities

Quality Control Responsibilities
* The quality control functions include but are not limited to: using the appropriate documentation to ensure all products and/or orders are received and/or shipped correctly, verifying product meets quality standard, including reporting any damages, contamination, or discrepancies, ensuring product is stacked, packaged, stretch wrapped, and labeled properly.

Founded in 1971, we are one of the largest manufacturers of tooling for the corrugated box industry. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MACHINE OPERATOR
Imagine walking through the grocery store and checking the boxes to see if you helped create that box. Or at your child's next birthday, their gift came in a box you helped create. As a Machine Operator that's what you do-create tooling that makes boxes for the items you see and use everyday.
In this Machine Operator position, you play a key role in creating the primary product that is sold to our customers. You are the first step in our process and the first to ensure it's in perfect condition and lives up to the customer's expectations.
Using your keen eye for detail, you accurately read all machine specifications and CAD drawings. You will run multiple state of the art CNC machines that burn the layout of the die into wooden die boards. You will ensure the layout matches the file and measures correctly. Because every job we do is custom, you enjoy the job variety this brings as well as learning something new. You find great satisfaction in working with your hands to bring our products to life!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR MACHINE OPERATOR

Machine Operator
We are hiring for multiple Machine Operators to join our team. As a Machine Operator you will play a vital role in our manufacturing process. You will be responsible for setting up and operating machines, monitoring their performance, and performing routine maintenance tasks. In addition, you will be required to inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and make adjustments as necessary.

Objective of Position: Regularly perform tasks for a 12 hour period to maintain optimum operation, with minimum down time of equipment and produce high quality product in a safe efficient manner while maintaining good housekeeping of assigned production line.
Safety:
Safety is a condition of employment at Genpak. The Utility will be responsible for individual compliance with all safety rules, regulations and policy procedures. Employee responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Compliance with all facility safety rules and regulations.
Reporting any unsafe practices and/or conditions to their supervisor.
Maintaining floor safety discipline by interceding with fellow Associates, who may engage in rule violations and/or unsafe, unhealthy activities.
Communicating to management those Associates who persist in violations of safety rules and/or procedures.
Wearing required personal protective equipment properly and reporting any defective PPE.
Reporting all near misses, accidents, injuries or illnesses, including Muscular Skeletal symptoms or disorders.
Responsible for following established lock out/tag out procedures. All equipment and machinery shall be locked or tagged out before an employee places any body part in equipment during servicing or maintenance where the unexpected energization, start-up or release of stored energy, could cause injury.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Check material box levels (color, additives, crystal, regrind) at the beginning of each Shift. 30 minutes
Periodically check material flow, troubleshoot and resolve issues. 30 minutes
Assist with bringing supplies and materials to the production line. (i.e., boxes, pallets, bulk bins, film and other supplies required to package product). 30 minutes
Label weigh, store all regrind and raw materials at designated areas. 30 minutes
Assist with relieving other Associates for breaks. 3 associates plus himself x 75 minutes = 300 / 60 = 5 hours
Remove all trash and cardboard from the packing area by the end of shift. 45 minutes
Grind scrap sheet and bad product accumulated. Varies in time base on how the lines or running. 1 hour
Assist the Line Operator in starting the line. 30 minutes
Assist with maintaining good housekeeping of the line, replacing oil pads on the forming station and around the Trimpress. 1 hour
Assist with cleaning the grinder pit. 15 minutes
Assist with making material line connections/disconnections. Unstopping lines. 30 minutes
Assist with monitoring material handling systems. 1 hour
Cleaning blender filters, monitor and empty outside pump cyclones on SL 3. 1
Setup and breakdown Gaylord boxes. 15 minutes
