PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Must safely set up and operate the machine to produce quality product at the desired target speed of each run. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY: Change out dies and achieves make ready times safely and efficiently to meet target speeds Stock the machine with materials needed for set up and die working Tools on the machine are to be in their proper holding places, borrowed tools are to be returned once they are no longer needed Locate issues that may occur mechanically to the machine as part of set up and while observing the machine while it is running Work with the Die Shop assistant to set up upcoming job and assist with any issues throughout the run Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by assisting with set- up or performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor Adapts to Continuous Improvement and follows new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation In accordance with our 5S system, maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines. Use situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions; wears appropriate PPE for the task and the area Occasionally the Operator will be asked to perform a different job, or be temporarily placed on a different machine based on production needs AUTHORITY: The Operator must have the ability to lead others that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the cutter operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Experience operating a large format die cutter, preferably in a folding carton environment, preferred but not required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Gluer Operator is responsible for the safe set up and operation of the folder / gluer machine ensuring high-quality packaging and products are produced at a consistent rate of speed in accordance with machine standards and production goals. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs safe operation and adjustments of the folder / gluer machine in a consistent manner to meet target speeds and produce quality packaging while maintaining standard safety, quality and production operating procedures; performs work independently and without direct supervision. Safely starts up, sets up and performs necessary machine adjustments ensuring precise measurements and proper alignments within the allotted time frame established for the specific job. Actively performs all SCT Quality procedures and standards including required quality checks and sample pulls ensuring customer specifications and quality standards are consistently met; actively works with the crew to ensure quality of the product meets all standard s and customer specifications with regard to folding, gluing, packaging, labeling, and stacking; identifies scrap defects and notifies Trainer or Supervisor of any discrepancies or areas of concern. Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines; uses situational awareness and actively looks for weak signals to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions; consistently wears appropriate PPE for the task at hand and within the assigned area; immediately notifies Supervisor of any unsafe condition that exists. Troubleshoots and resolves various issues when running different styles of products or substrates; diagnoses and assists in minor repairs to resolve machine malfunctions. Thoroughly reviews previous shift's report to determine status of job and any issues with a job or the equipment, reviews production schedule and verifies all information on the job ticket. Logs productivity and provides comments for each production job in the manufacturing computer system; accurately completes production report and records production data; sets up and uses various scanners as needed. Communicates with upstream and downstream internal customers effectively to improve safety, quality and efficiency of production. Notifies appropriate crew member when additional cartons are needed to feed the machine, ensuring consistent run speeds and no interruptions to production run Operators may cross train in other areas or on other machines as needed Regularly observes and assists feeder packers on gluing line to ensure cases are packed to customer specifications including proper count and placement; assists with providing instruction and guides activities of feeder packers when necessary. Ensures that finished products with defects are properly scrapped and discarded while consistently following procedures to minimize waste. Communicates effectively with other team members throughout the shift and at shift change to share critical information necessary to perform the job safely and efficiently; collaborates regularly with Quality Technicians/Supervisor to obtain necessary approvals and to ensure quality standards are consistently met. Responsible for completing required routine cleaning and preventative maintenance duties of machine and ensuring all PM's are completed on time as established in the PM schedule. Actively seeks and adopts new updates and improvements to processes, new procedures, and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation. Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S program. Assists other departments or positions with duties as assigned. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY: * Feeding consists of removing blanks from a pallet, checking for quality of product, and placing them into the feed hopper of the gluer machine maintaining the hopper at proper load heights * It will be the responsibility of the feeder to observe the blanks flowing through the machine and watch for quality and jam-ups, and to alert the Operator of problems or stop the machine * The feeder will notify the Operator before a new pallet of blanks is needed maintaining adequate blanks into the hopper to ensure there is no interruption in run speeds * Packing can consist of one or two persons depending on the product and run speed of the carton produced * A packer will fill a corrugated case with the proper case count by picking up the blanks and placing them uniformly into the case ensuring proper fit, and notifying the Supervisor of any issues * Maintain quality standards by learning defective characteristic for products, sorting defective parts, and communicating with Machine Operator, Supervisor, and Quality Control staff * Participate in teamwork: work with others to improve operations, reduce waste, maintain lean manufacturing goals and requirements, answer questions, and communicate with other staff as needed * Cross train by rotating to different machines and work areas * Pack cartons according to work order instructions by verifying counts, weighing cartons, and following job ticket and labeling instructions * Adjust to and follow new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation * In accordance with our 5S system, maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans * Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor Page Break AUTHORITY: Must have the ability to lead others that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and other written instructions. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Safely feed/pack product unglued/glued on the machine to acquire quality product at the desired target speed of each run. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY: Feeding consists of removing blanks from a pallet, checking for quality of product, and placing them into the feed hopper of the gluer machine maintaining the hopper at proper load heights It will be the responsibility of the feeder to observe the blanks flowing through the machine and watch for quality and jam-ups, and to alert the Operator of problems or stop the machine The feeder will notify the Operator before a new pallet of blanks is needed maintaining adequate blanks into the hopper to ensure there is no interruption in run speeds Packing can consist of one or two persons depending on the product and run speed of the carton produced A packer will fill a corrugated case with the proper case count by picking up the blanks and placing them uniformly into the case ensuring proper fit, and notifying the Supervisor of any issues Maintain quality standards by learning defective characteristic for products, sorting defective parts, and communicating with Machine Operator, Supervisor, and Quality Control staff Participate in teamwork: work with others to improve operations, reduce waste, maintain lean manufacturing goals and requirements, answer questions, and communicate with other staff as needed Cross train by rotating to different machines and work areas Pack cartons according to work order instructions by verifying counts, weighing cartons, and following job ticket and labeling instructions Adjust to and follow new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation In accordance with our 5S system, maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor Page Break AUTHORITY: Must have the ability to lead others that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and other written instructions. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English.
