Southern Finishing company history timeline
There have been many changes since Southern Aluminum Finishing broke ground as an anodizer on our first aluminum anodizing line in 1946.
In 1946 most of our competitors had not even begun operation.
SAF was established in 1946 at the location of its current headquarters.
There are only four employees still working at SAF who worked for us in the 1960’s.
Derrek has lived in Atlanta since 1976.
Southern Finishing, a privately held company, was founded in 1978 and employs more than 500 people with 11 manufacturing and distribution locations in North Carolina, Virginia, and Arizona.
Ed has led the company’s development and growth since our start in 1978.
In the 1990’s SAF pioneered the use of computerized color measuring technology to match color on anodized finishes.
In 1993, Derrek and Karen built their personal home from the ground up.
In 1996 former Georgia Governor Zell Miller declared November 1, 1996 Southern Aluminum Finishing Co. day in the city of Atlanta.
March 31st, 1998 – Cut-to-length aluminum extrusions are now available from Southern Aluminum Finishing Company
In 1999, Derrek decided to make his passion a career.
Southern Concrete & Finishing Co., Inc.: was founded in July 2002
February 14th, 2003 – SAF announces the acquisition of a 75,000 metal fabrication facility.
In 2006 SAF celebrated its 60th anniversary.
March 30th, 2010 – SAF announces the promotion of John B. McClatchey Jr. to Sales Manager.
March 31, 2011 – Perimeter Systems introduces new extruded aluminum Pediment, Entablature and Column System
January 2nd, 2013 – SAF-West opens anodizing plant, adds capacity
February 24th, 2015 — SAF Rainscreen certified for Florida Building Code product approval
March 10, 2016 — SAF wins Business of the Year Award
