Position Summary
Responsible for assisting surgeons during intraoperative procedures. Privileges under the direct supervision of the surgeon include the following:

Roles and Responsibilities
o Assist surgeon with gowning, gloving, prepping and draping.
o Facilitate safe positioning of patient according to the surgeon's preference, patient's anatomical and physiological limits, and surgical procedure to be performed.
o Assist surgeon with passing instruments or suture and basic assisting.
o Provides exposure, assists in achieving homeostasis with surgeon's supervision.
o Provides manipulation and dissection and / or removal of tissues, aids in implanting, securing, and/or removal of devises and drains.
o Performs layered closure of surgical sites utilizing appropriate techniques according to individual surgeon preference.
o Applies appropriate dressing material specific to procedure.
o Applies splints or casts specific to procedure and/ or injury.
o Assesses skin integrity and assists in transfer of patient post- operative.

* New MA Graduates within 6 months from date of graduation from an MA Program must submit: a letter from the school or a letter from the certifying body
* Non-Certified MAs or new graduates past 6 months from date of graduation from an MA program must submit: a letter from the certifying body
* Within first six months of employment, will complete one of the following certifications after up to two test attempts:
* Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
* Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT) or
* National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

* Performs point of care testing, including venipuncture, urine dips, finger sticks, strep screens, flu screens, pregnancy tests, and cultures. Independently performs other tests and/or office procedures such as EKG's, pulmonary testing, and chronic disease management testing.
* Is knowledgeable about the purpose, process and results for tests and lab specimens frequently performed in an office setting.
* Relays NORMAL test results to patient or reads results, verbatim, from the physician documentation. Consults an RN, LPN, or physician should the patient have questions regarding their results.
* Adheres to CDPG Environment of Care policies. Maintains infection control standards for exam/procedure rooms and areas where patient care services are delivered. Cleans, disinfects, changes linen etc. Performs quality checks and trouble-shoots office instruments. Is knowledgeable of sterilization techniques and biological indicators for sterilization.
* Participates in shared governance, committee work, and practice/department projects.
* Demonstrates the knowledge of proper identification and reporting of medical/health care errors.

Qualifications
Required:

* High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 or more years of experience as Medical Assistant or completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program
* American Heart Association accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
* Completion of phlebotomy class or equivalent experience. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to type proficiently and accurately. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to assess and determine situations requiring an interpreter and to use interpreter services effectively.
* New graduates/hires must obtain certification/registration within 1 year from hire date. The following certifications will be accepted:

This is a Full Time position at 36 hours per week for OBGYN located at the Crystal Lake clinic. Schedule is as follows: Monday (7:00am-5:00pm), Tuesday (7:00am-6:00pm), Wednesday (7:00am-1:30pm), Thursday (7:00am-3:30pm) and Friday (7:00am-2:00pm). The shifts would be within those hours and there is always a possibility of travel to another location with different hours.

* Performs point of care testing, including venipuncture, urine dips, finger sticks, strep screens, flu screens, pregnancy tests, and cultures. Independently performs other tests and/or office procedures such as EKG's, pulmonary testing, and chronic disease management testing.
* Is knowledgeable about the purpose, process and results for tests and lab specimens frequently performed in an office setting.
* Relays NORMAL test results to patient or reads results, verbatim, from the physician documentation. Consults an RN, LPN, or physician should the patient have questions regarding their results.
* Adheres to CDPG Environment of Care policies. Maintains infection control standards for exam/procedure rooms and areas where patient care services are delivered. Cleans, disinfects, changes linen etc. Performs quality checks and trouble-shoots office instruments. Is knowledgeable of sterilization techniques and biological indicators for sterilization.
* Participates in shared governance, committee work, and practice/department projects.

* Performs point of care testing, including venipuncture, urine dips, finger sticks, strep screens, flu screens, pregnancy tests, and cultures. Independently performs other tests and/or office procedures such as EKG's, pulmonary testing, and chronic disease management testing.
* Is knowledgeable about the purpose, process and results for tests and lab specimens frequently performed in an office setting.
* Relays NORMAL test results to patient or reads results, verbatim, from the physician documentation. Consults an RN, LPN, or physician should the patient have questions regarding their results.
* Adheres to CDPG Environment of Care policies. Maintains infection control standards for exam/procedure rooms and areas where patient care services are delivered. Cleans, disinfects, changes linen etc. Performs quality checks and trouble-shoots office instruments. Is knowledgeable of sterilization techniques and biological indicators for sterilization.
* Participates in shared governance, committee work, and practice/department projects.
* Demonstrates the knowledge of proper identification and reporting of medical/health care errors.

* Is knowledgeable about the purpose, process and results for tests and lab specimens frequently performed in an office setting.
* Relays NORMAL test results to patient or reads results, verbatim, from the physician documentation. Consults an RN, LPN, or physician should the patient have questions regarding their results.
* Adheres to CDPG Environment of Care policies. Maintains infection control standards for exam/procedure rooms and areas where patient care services are delivered. Cleans, disinfects, changes linen etc. Performs quality checks and trouble-shoots office instruments. Is knowledgeable of sterilization techniques and biological indicators for sterilization.

Description

The Medical Assistant is a member of the health care team primarily responsible for providing support to physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical staff by facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting with various patient care activities, and performing related administrative functions. The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow through the clinic; maintaining neat, clean and safe patient care areas; promoting patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner; safeguarding patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
* Assures efficient patient flow through the site:
* Escorts patient to exam room, identifies patient with 2 identifiers and prepares patient for examination.
* Obtains accurate vital signs, per organization standards.
* Documents reason for visit and updates/confirms, allergies, smoking history and pharmacy information.
* Promptly informs the provider and registered nurse of any significant change in vital signs or acute symptoms.
* Anticipates/sets up equipment or supplies needed for visit.
* Cleans and prepares exam room for next patient.
* Responds to needs to expedite visits and maintain flow of patients and prioritize tasks accordingly.
* Assists practitioner with medical and surgical procedures in accordance with established protocols such as:
* Electrocardiogram (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection and/or Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived testing as directed by Provider.
* Provides high quality care by:
* Prepares and stocks all exam rooms in treatment area by following established protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment and instruments.
* Participates in environmental safety rounds.
* Maintains vaccine/medication inventory.
* Monitors and maintains equipment and instruments according to clinic guidelines.
* Assists in ordering supplies and correctly disposes of all expired items.
* Adheres to office opening and closing procedures.
* Functions as an integral part of the patient care team and promotes patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner:
* Accepts and performs delegated responsibilities in a positive manner.
* Offers assistance to others.
* Attends and participates in staff meetings.
* Communicates appropriately and effectively with patients and patient care team (in the office and on the phone)
* Performs delegated procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective, and efficient manner (see specialty practice addendum)
* Performs all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager
Qualifications
Required:
* Candidate must have written proof of meeting candidate eligibility requirements for writing one of the five eligible certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA)
* Accepted documentation:
* New MA Graduates within 6 months from date of graduation from an MA Program must submit: a letter from the school or a letter from the certifying body
* Non-Certified MAs or new graduates past 6 months from date of graduation from an MA program must submit: a letter from the certifying body
* Within first six months of employment, will complete one of the following certifications after up to two test attempts:
* Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
* Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT) or
* National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
* Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
* Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) through the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
All Candidates/Incumbents:
* High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities:
* Supervise and direct the offices front-line clinical and clerical staff.
* Participate in interviewing, hiring, training, progressive discipline, dismissals, and performance appraisals.
* Oversee and direct day to day office operations within budget guidelines.
* Manage providers schedules with templates and optimize patient care hours to enhance productivity.
* Schedule staff and allocate resources across hours of operation to maximize patient access and satisfaction, provider productivity and efficiency, and staff productivity.
* Conduct timely and accurate cash management duties, including overseeing the collection of co-pays and patient balances, in-house cash balances, and bank deposits.

Qualifications
Required:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
* Current certification as a:

Job Description

Responsibilities:
Takes patient vitals.
Greets incoming patients.
Acts as a liaison between the Program and other hospital departments/physician offices.
Escorts the patient throughout the day to meet their needs.
Trouble shoots and problem solves care delivery issues. Notifies clinic leadership and/or appropriate department/physician office of deviations in the patient's schedule.
Meets needs of patients who come through the Program.
Assures that patient arrive promptly at scheduled appointments. Makes adjustments to the patients schedule to eliminate or minimize delays.
Provides each department and/or physicians and administrators with the necessary requisitions needed and collects appropriate medical reports and billing statements. Collects and tracks medical information for internist prior to scheduled exit conference.
Pre-orders meals/snacks for patients as requested. Sets up rooms prior to the arrival of patients and cleans up after last patients exit.
Assembles patient exit packet for internist prior to scheduled exit conference or debrief.
Educates patients with protocol and testing details/information
Collaborates with other clinical staff as appropriate
May administer shots/injections.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or GED.
Must have either:
LPN licensure in Illinois OR
EMT licensure in Illinois OR
Current certification as a:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) OR
