Prepare samples for testing and send out to reference laboratories Maintain laboratory equipment and stock supplies. Performs complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles under indirect supervision per CLIA requirements. Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision under indirect supervision per CLIA requirements. Assist in troubleshooting and instrument maintenance. Participate in training programs. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving instrument failures. Participate in comparison studies and validation of new equipment. Ensure proper quality control measures are in place. The schedule for the position is Thursday, Friday and Saturday 6pm to 6:30am. The Registered Sleep Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Registered Sleep Technologist position performs all aspects of overnight polysomnograms, including CPAP/Bi-PAP titrations. A Registered Sleep Technologist must have achieved competency in the following areas: * Independently prepare patients for and perform diagnostic polysomnograms. * Independently perform CPAP and Bi-PAP titrations according to national standards and departmental guidelines. Includes ability to articulate indications for administration of humidification. * Demonstrate knowledge of indications (and procedure for obtaining orders) for administration of oxygen. * Demonstrate the ability to score and process sleep records. This position works closely with other members of the NTC/SDC staff, including physicians. Responsibilities: * Completes all required paperwork before study is performed, including consent, relevant patient history, questionnaires, etc. Clarify unclear or inappropriate orders. Complete billing information upon completion of procedure. * Independently prepare equipment for monitoring by performing necessary calibrations, selecting filter settings, determining appropriate monitoring montage, and entering required patient information. * Provide CPAP training by utilizing appropriate patient education materials. * Prepare patients for study by accurately placing recording devices required for procedure. Utilizes International 10-20 system for EEG electrode placement. * Record study by entering appropriate notations and clinical observations into computer system and on technician worksheet. * Identify abnormalities such as apneas, PLM's, and other sleep disturbances. Seeks assistance to adjust recording technique to best enhance and provide a clearly interpretable record. * Recognize and respond appropriately to medical problems and physiological events, especially cardiac dysrhythmias, respiratory events and seizures. * Recognize technically inadequate signals and initiate troubleshooting techniques. Obtain additional assistance as needed. Appropriately document barriers to resolution. * Maintain monitoring equipment in clean and organized condition. * Participate in departmental in-services and continuing education. * Encourage teamwork through interdepartmental communication and constructive problem resolution. * Provide training for new Sleep Technicians and student preceptors. * Score sleep records according to department guidelines. * Maintain registry in good standing by completing the necessary CEU requirements (10 CEs or equivalent per year) as established by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine * Provides testing information, reassures and relaxes patients, and prepares patients for their procedure. * Provides assistance to all patients as needed. * Requires interaction with patients of all ages (pediatric, adult and geriatric). Qualifications Required: * Certification by Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists, RPSGT or Registered Respiratory Therapist. * BLS CPR certified * High school diploma or equivalent, and completion of training program in electroneuro diagnostics. * Knowledge of the International 10-20 system of electrode placement. * Familiarity with personal computers. * At minimum of 12 months prior sleep tech experience. Preferred: * Bachelor's Degree or additional training in electroneuro diagnostics, anatomy, or successful completion of certification in allied health school. * Prior sleep experience at a facility accredited by the AASM. * At minimum of 18 months prior sleep tech experience. The Surgical Pathology Technologist provides assistance to all staff pathologists and residents with gross examination and dissection of designated specimens, specimen receipt, laboratory computer system order entry, preparation of all tissues for gross examination, referral and delivery of samples and supply orders, and customer service (specimen collection and receipt information) via phone and direct communication. Responsibilities: This position is responsible for communication with clients, pathologists, residents, and supervisors regarding specimen problems. Perform and/or assist with gross examination, dissection, and selection of representative tissue for microscopic examination for designated specimens. Verify that specimen and requisition labeling match prior to examination. Resolve discrepancies prior to gross examination and escalate to supervisor when necessary. Assist in the development of product training regarding all three dimensional, electro-anatomical mapping systems as well as other accessory equipment. Troubleshoot technical problems and systems issues. Determine technical solution in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommends actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solution. Conducts technical analysis of product implementations, modifications and enhancements to product in accordance with specific customer specifications and implementations. This position will also require the individual to assess customer needs and recommend solutions in accordance with product specifications and customer specifications. Research and test new equipment prototype devices and products, ensure that prototype equipment devices meet all company specifications and guidelines. This person will need to have thorough knowledge of all company products, policies, and procedures. The ability to operate a recording system and the stimulator system. Atrial Flutter Procedure: Knowledge of catheters for use during atrial flutter procedures. The ability to recognize the catheters location under x-ray. Identify and analyze the catheters position by using intracardiac recordings. The ability to operate a recording system and stimulator system. Provide assistance to the physicians by mapping the locations of their catheters with advanced mapping systems. Atrial Fibrillation Procedure: The atrial fibrillation is an extension of a basic EP study. The ability to use Intracardiac echo to allow the physician the ability to visually maneuver across the heart septum by making a small puncture to allow insertion of catheters to the left side for accessibility to the pulmonary veins. The ability to read right and left-sided blood pressures on a recording system to assist the physician in successfully crossing the heart septum. Operate advanced 3D mapping systems to guide the physician to pulmonary vein and properly place ablation lesions. Procedures: Atrial Tachycardia, Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia, Ventricular Tachycardia and RVOT procedures all need the same responsibilities as the ones above. Serves as the primary analytical resource for the user/customers and vendors regarding issues of application deployment, work flow, and overall system effectiveness. Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of advances and changes in the industry and looks for opportunities to apply these to hospitals needs. Maintains solid technical competence for assigned systems while gasping the integration and interaction of all supported systems. Responsibilities: * Collaborate with the main lab staff, other ancillary departments, departments, nurses and providers to ensure excellent patient care. * Receives specimens into the laboratory information system. * Inputs and retrieves lab results in laboratory or hospital computer system. * Register specimen dropoffs (e.g. Home health) in LIS assuring accurate data entry. * Properly processes specimens for transport to reference laboratories. * Distributes specimens to the appropriate testing area. * Identifies and solves problems utilizing appropriate resources with the assistance of a supervisor, manager, pathologist and/or coworkers when appropriate. * Verifies the accuracy of all instruments and test kits; responsible for quality control, maintenance, troubleshoots * Operate and maintain laboratory automation systems as appropriate. * Performs diagnostic/analytic testing of specimens, interprets, documents and report results to provider. * Accurately performs waived and/or moderate complexity testing under the direction of CLS * Ensures appropriate testing is ordered and properly identifies the correct reference laboratory for referred specimens * Communicates specimen rejections, critical/notifiable results to appropriate clinical personnel and completes required documentation. * May review/record refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records. Areas of concern are recorded through the Corrective Action Log and reported to maintenance for repair. * Adheres to lab procedures with following up on outstanding orders including time-sensitive draws/charges * Answers phone calls to the laboratory and triages appropriate * Coordinates courier pickups as needed. Department Specific duties * Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age related standards as required. * Completes biological transport training as required and maintain competency. * Recognizes temperature dependent transport conditions and select correct packing list destination. * Monitors and maintains specialty supplies, including kits, swab and collection containers and disperse to units * Ensures supplies are available and stored at the appropriate temperatures * Performs microbiology setups or other testing preparation duties. * May assist with bone marrow and other biopsy processing. * Pull AP slides for second opinion requests and log material back into Epic when material is returned. Qualifications Required: * High School Diploma * Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a general lab, specimen processing or phlebotomy area or enrolled in lab related education program.
