The Surgical Technician functions in the scrub role during intraoperative patient care, doing so as a delegated technical function under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Performs a variety of clinical/patient care related functions, under the direction of the clinical RN or physician that provide support to patients and staff including but not limited to the following:
* Collects, labels and transports specimens as assigned.
* Obtains 12 lead EKG's
* Discontinues Saline Locks and Indwelling Urinary Catheters
* Discontinues Telemetry Monitoring packs
* Performs Bladder Scan
* Performs Point of Care Testing as appropriate
* Assists patients with personal hygiene and nutritional needs as identified on patient's plan of care.
* Performs hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the clinical RN.
* Obtains and documents patient care data as directed by the clinical RN and as noted in the plan of care.
* Assists with patient ambulation and positioning as directed in the plan of care.
* Assists the health care team members in meeting the individualized needs of the patient.
* Responds to patient call lights and request for assistance in a professional and timely manner.
* Assist the health care team in maintaining a clinical care environment that supports patient, family and staff safety.
* Assists with post mortem care.
* In collaboration with the Nursing Manager/Director, Clinical Nurse Specialists/Nurse Clinicians and NM Academy identifies and meets learning needs. Completes annual required training and updates knowledge through periodic in-services.
* Participates in performance improvement activities that advance innovative processes to achieve unit targets and exceptional performance.
Additional Responsibilities as Safety Attendant/Telesitter Monitor
* Maintains visual observation at all times with no distractions
* Provides prompt notification to care team if patient requires assistance
* Monitors and maintains patient environmental safety, and notifies care team if any hazards are discovered
* Performs care checks in accordance with care plan
* Follows appropriate policy
Additional Responsibilities under direction of department leadership include but not limited to:
* Answers, screens and directs incoming calls.
* Facilitates obtaining a hard copy of the patients advance directive if patient indicated he/she has one and places in Electronic Medical Record.
* Manages admissions through Electronic Bed Board.
* Assures patient care unit readiness for EMR downtime and facilitates data recovery following downtime.
Qualifications
Required:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Completion of an accredited CNA program and listed on the state of Illinois CNA Registry OR Nursing student who have successful completed one clinical rotation. Must provide written verification of successful completion of said rotation.
* BLS through American Heart Association.

Description
The Nursing Float Pool Patient Care Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse, provides direct patient care and, at times, direct continuous safety observation of assigned patients to promote the physical, personal, emotional and hygienic needs of patients assigned as appropriate per unit/facility.
Responsibilities:
* Provides direct patient care under the supervision of the registered nurse. Duties may include, but are not limited to: activities of daily living, observations, assisting patients with personal hygiene/toileting needs, reporting to the registered nurse, feeding/assisting with feeding the patient, monitoring and recording vital signs, turning and repositioning bed ridden patients, transporting patients, making sure patient rooms are clean, tidy, and stocked with supplies, and other general patient care duties as directed by the registered nurse.
* Provides continuous safety observation, either in-person or via continuous video monitoring, of patients identified to be at risk for causing injury to him/herself or to others. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: offering basic comfort measures to help the patient relax and addressing the emotional needs of specific patients served, including the use of encouragement, distraction, coping strategies, cognitive stimulation activities, and de-escalation techniques within the scope of this role as appropriate.
* Remotely monitors up to 9 patients via continuous video monitoring. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing effective verbal redirection of designated remote continuous observation patients from engaging in risk behaviors and summoning appropriate staff via communication device/STAT Alert Alarm when appropriate. Components of this equipment include, but are not limited to: 2-way audio with microphone and headset, STAT Alert Alarm, mobile video monitors, and a centralized monitoring station.
Qualifications
Required:
* High School Diploma or GED
* Healthcare Provider BLS (CPR) Certification
* CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) Certification or have completed one year of clinical practicum in a hospital setting via a certified nursing program.
* CPI Certification - Within 90 Days of Hire
* Proficient computer and technology skills
* Strong ability to multitask and prioritize workflow under various circumstances
* Willingness to work in a team environment
* Flexibility to work in a variety of acute care environments upon little notice
* Excellent communication skills
* Physical ability to perform functional requirements as detailed. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

* 26-bed unit designed to provide treatment, care, and service to adult patients with acute medical, surgical and cardiac conditions specializing in complicated surgeries.
* Patient population will include but are not limited to esophagectomies, whipples, surgical-oncology cases, high-volume liposuction, multi-level spinal fusions, and vascular cases. Other opportunities for this unit will be any surgical patients that require a medication drip that is not appropriate for the medical-surgical inpatient unit.
* This unit will also be open to medical step-down and overflow patients to enhance hospital throughput.
* Direct care of the 2A patients will be provided by registered nurses with an ideal ratio of 1:3-4 patients for step down level of care.

Responsibilities:

Description

The Patient Care Technician's primary function is to assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. The Patient Care Technician functions as a member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities:
* Direct Patient Care Activities
* Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge process.
