Job Description

A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to the acutely ill patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. The NM Internal Agency RN will be prepared to perform these duties at all NM hospitals as required by the schedule.
As a member of the NM Internal Agency RN Team, the nurse in this role will have assignments that span across all NM hospital locations. Generally, the minimum assignment at the same hospital location will be six (6) continuous weeks, with the maximum assignment not to exceed six (6) continuous months at the same hospital location. This position offers the RN the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills, as well as sharpen communication and teamwork. The NM Internal Agency RN works with many diverse people and grows relationships with fellow staff members all over Northwestern Medicine's system hospitals.

Evaluates and documents the patient's responses to nursing interventions in the health record and properly individualizes the plan of care based on the evaluation of findings.
Utilizes the best available evidence, including research findings to guide practice decisions.
Qualifications
Required:
Minimum of two years of inpatient med/surg, stepdown or ICU experience.
Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse
CPR - Basic Life Support
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate with others
Strong analytic abilities
ADN - Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in clinical nurse role.
Preferred:
Previous RN experience in a float or coverage capacity in the inpatient hospital setting
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with expectation to obtain BSN after 2 years of employment

Performs emergent or scheduled urgent procedures during on-call hours (8pm- 7:30a, weekends and holidays) when scheduled on call
Provide on call coverage as scheduled
Preform apheresis procedures in both ambulatory and inpatient settings
Assess patients pre, during and post procedures and therapies to observe mild, moderate and severe Apheresis and non-Apheresis related complications and notifying the appropriate provider to escalate care
Delivers evidence based safe and effective care in a timely manner
Accurately documents all pertinent procedure information in Epic
Ensures all consents and education have been completed prior to initiating a procedure or therapy
Responsible for ensuring equipment preventative maintenance is current prior to use, disinfect machine, room surfaces and equipment necessary for patient care according to policy
Assist with inventory control process
Maintain safe, neat and adequately stocked supplies in patient rooms

Student Nurse Intern (SNI)
is an unlicensed person who works, under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN), to support the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. By participating in the healthcare environment and enhancing their knowledge of patient and family care needs in each clinical area(s), the SNI will prepare for their future transition as a staff nurse. The Student Nurse Intern (SNI) is an unlicensed person who works, under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN), to support the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. By participating in the healthcare environment and enhancing their knowledge of patient and family care needs in each clinical area(s), the SNI will prepare for their future transition as a staff nurse. The SNI reflects the attributes of the NM nurse, mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
The Student Nurse Intern's (SNI) tentative responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
* Provide direct patient care under RN supervision, consistent with the Relationship Care Model
* Participate in bedside report, patient rounding, and care planning discussions
* Support patient hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and comfort
* Collect specimens and perform basic monitoring tasks
* Document care activities in the electronic medical record, as permitted
* Practice infection control and isolation precautions
* Engage in educational opportunities, performance improvement projects, and professional development activities
Successful Student Nurse Interns will receive an employment offer at the conclusion of their 8-week internship.

Hours:

Qualifications
Required
* Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR through American Heart Association
* Documentation of enrollment in an accredited Nursing Program. Students must graduate no later than June of the calendar year following completion of the SNI program. In addition, they must have completed at least one clinical rotation.
Preferred
* Currently enrolled in an accredited professional nursing program and entering the last year of college. Some locations may require enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
* A letter of recommendation from a faculty member

Northwestern Medicine's Nurse Externship Program allows nursing students the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of nursing work environments.
The Student Nurse Extern assists in the delivery of both direct and indirect nursing care as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse within the scope of practice of unlicensed, assistive personnel and performs tasks for patients' activities of daily living to promote comfort and safety, assists RN's with the collection of patient data, and performs selected procedures.
