Southwest Health company history timeline

1950

The 25-bed hospital served southwest Wisconsin until 1950 when Platteville Municipal Hospital opened.

1951

Through the efforts of many, the dedication ceremony for the opening of Tri-State Hospital was held on May 12, 1951, with Governor Norman Brunsdale cutting the ribbon and opening the doors for the first patients.

1957

Through the years, the hospital prospered and developed a nursing home in 1957.

1963

A nursing home wing was added seven years later and an Obstetrics unit and Administration wing were added in 1963.

1964

LONG TERM CARE Sunset Nursing Home opened on July 21, 1964.

1971

In 1971, the nursing home became Vista Grande Nursing Home and occupied a building on Mildred Road.

1975

The new Southwest General Hospital was opened in 1975.

1977

The hospital grew and by 1977 it became obvious that the community had outgrown the facility; a new structure was needed.

1985

In 1985, the boards streamlined operations by housing acute care services in Platteville and long-term care services in Cuba City.

1990

SOUTHWEST MEDICAL CLINIC The clinic was built in 1990 and opened its door on Tuesday, September 4th, 1990.

1991

The hospital began a multi-phase remodeling plan that was completed in 1991.

1994

In 1994, Southwest General Hospital changed its name to Southwest General Health Center to reflect its growing role in promoting wellness in the communities it serves.

2000

2000 – Present Around the turn of the century, the previously dormant hospital foundation was reestablished.

2005

In January of 2005, this dream became a reality when construction of Sunrise Village Assisted Living was completed and the first tenants began moving in.

2016

Then, in 2016, Southwest Health partnered with the City of Platteville to elevate the local EMS services to paramedic level and construct a new 8,500 square foot facility to meet the needs of the region.
