Southwest Virginia Community College (SVCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SVCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SVCC also has associate's degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice. Diplomas and certificates at RCC are awarded in Occupational Therapy Assistance, Welding, Law Enforcement, Banking, Practical Nursing and others. SVCC's Career Studies program offer non-degree training in such fields as Carpentry, Masonry, Medical Coding, Web Programming, Electrical Installation, Pharmacy Tech, Phlebotomy and many others. Additional study options at RVCC include distance learning, helpful for those who are unable to attend class in-person. SVCC also offers such student services as academic assistance and supplemental instruction to help students with whichever program they choose. SVCC offers many financial benefits to designated groups. For example, students who live within a 30-mile radius of SVCC benefit from a significantly reduced tuition. Also, senior citizens over the age of 60 and children of deceased or disabled veterans are eligible for tuition waivers. Other populations may be eligible for SVCC's other financial assistance programs, which include grants and loans.
