LAUNCH ENGINEER, ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS This engineer is a systems-focused, automation driven, multi-faceted individual. The engineer uses electrical and mechanical systems knowledge to inform the design of test stands, support facilities, avionics and control systems. SpaceX control engineers develop and integrate physical hardware including wire harnesses, PCBs, custom enclosures, PLCs, data acquisition systems, avionics systems, engine controllers, and various sensors. The engineer is responsible for the transference of real-time data from these physical sensors and actuators to the stand operator, responsible engineer, or customer. These critical automation and controls systems support operations that enable safe, economical, and reliable access to space. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Design and maintain the operational capability of all control voltage level (electrical systems * Develop and upgrade data acquisition and control systems * Proficiency in understanding and creating electrical schematics and single line diagrams * Provide technical support and guidance for controls technicians and other non-controls engineering groups * Develop new hardware and processes to improve capabilities, reduce cost, and setup time of electrical systems * Analyze data to assess the function and health of electrical systems * Stay organized by creating build schedules and budgets, and then motivate the team to achieve them BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering * 1+ years of experience working with data acquisition systems PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: * Hands-on experience activating, building, and troubleshooting analog & digital electronic systems, including avionics * Experience with electrical power distribution, working knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E * Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal * Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight * Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and drive to succeed as part of a high functioning team * Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment * Ability to thrive in ambiguity, independently drive project progress, and manage multiple priorities * Knowledge of high-reliability processes and related documentation practices * Demonstrated ability to design, implement and troubleshoot data acquisition and control hardware * Fundamental understanding of engineering principles behind electronic equipment, instrumentation, and commonly used industrial equipment * Familiarity with mixed signal electronics, power supply design, analog filtering; testing and troubleshooting techniques, signal integrity, layout and grounding principles * First-hand experience with programming and software development * Experience with industrial bus protocols such as Modbus, Profinet and Ethernet/IP ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: * Ability to pass Air Force background check for Vandenberg Space Force Base * Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings * Ability to work at elevated heights (200+ feet) * Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing up and down stairs and/or ladders regularly throughout the day * Ability to lift light weight supplies or materials (up to 25lbs unassisted) * Available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required * Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, flashing lights, heat, cold, rain, and noise * Ability to travel to other SpaceX or 3rd party facilities (up to 25%) COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Pay range: Launch Engineer, Electrical Systems/Level I: $95,000 - $115,000/per year Launch Engineer, Electrical Systems/Level II: $110,000 - $130,000/per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. ELECTRICAL TEST AND RELIABILITY ENGINEER (STARSHIELD) Starshield leverages SpaceX's Starlink technology and launch capability to support national security efforts. While Starlink is designed for consumer and commercial use, Starshield is designed for government use, with an initial focus on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads. As a hardware reliability engineer on the Starshield team, you will demonstrate extreme ownership through detailed and thorough hardware bring-up, characterization, and qualification testing. You will directly drive improvements to the product, make changes to our processes and controls, and ensure that the hardware is reliable through all aspects of its life cycle from production to orbit. Starshield is a quickly growing program and there is a wide range of engaging opportunities. You will work with many cross-disciplinary teams and will need to think at a system level to ensure that your design is viable. Our development timelines are quick and you will need to rigorously explore solutions for previously unsolved or unknown problems. As a Electrical Test and Reliability Engineer on the Starshield team, you will be responsible for solving systemic on orbit and production issues, running root cause of failures from end to end, and working to drive process and design changes to continually improve production and on-orbit product quality and reliability. Engineers in this role are expected to be hands-on with the hardware and become intimately familiar with the design, manufacturing processes, test procedures, and on orbit operation of the sub-assemblies they support. RESPONSIBILITIES: Support on-call shifts and be ready to respond to satellite and gateway alerts, review telemetry, and submit commands to help recover operations Drive multidisciplinary failure investigations, build and track fault trees, and help run tests/experiments on the ground to narrow down probable causes Drive corrective action of design, production, test, and operational issues to ultimately improve satellite reliability Perform hands-on troubleshooting in the lab as part of key efforts to help identify root-cause This includes troubleshooting complex RF systems, various compute and network avionics and power electronics Create data analysis programs to identify satellite anomalous behavior as well as production yield issues to help better understand reliability performance Conduct regular reliability reviews to ensure that design intent is achieved and well-communicated; identify opportunities for risk reduction, and removal of complexity in designs and processes to improve on orbit life BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or physics 1+ years of experience in a design or manufacturing engineering role (student project team or internship experience qualifies) PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for the team's spirit of innovation and mission of improving reliability in cutting-edge technology Demonstrated capability to think creatively and solve complex problems Experience in mechatronics or other cross disciplinary combination of mechanical, electrical, and software skill sets Experience working with RF test equipment as well as debugging and testing RF systems Proficiency with programming and automation/scripting languages (Python, C, C++, SQL) Knowledge of quality tools such as design of experiments, statistical process control, root cause analysis and corrective action, process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), and various problem-solving approaches Experience in a fast-paced, iterative design environment within the consumer electronics, mobile handset, medical devices, marine, aerospace, or automotive industries Active Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, OR ability and willingness to obtain a Top Secret clearance is desired but not required ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed An active clearance may provide the opportunity for you to work on sensitive SpaceX missions; if so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Pay range: Level I: $110,000.00 - $120,000.00/per year Level II: $115,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. Those with an active clearance will receive a 10% differential, up to an additional $15,000 annually, once officially briefed into a classified program. Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
