APPLICATION SOFTWAREENGINEER
The application software team is the central nervous system of SpaceX - we create mission critical applications that are used throughout SpaceX to accelerate launch vehicle production and flight as well as systems that allow Starlink to grow into a worldwide fast, reliable Internet service. We are looking for engineers who treat fellow teammates with fairness, respect, and support.
Our team is currently creating and evolving systems to enable rapid build and reuse of Starship as well as designing the next generation manufacturing software that will be used in high throughput factories for Starlink. Other applications range from platforms that support concurrent streams of data from many always-on assets to manage the world's largest satellite constellation to public facing systems where customers can join our Starlink network globally. We work closely with engineers throughout the company to create and update our systems with respect to crewed launches, Starship flights, changes to the Starlink network and much more.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop highly reliable software solutions that are used across SpaceX
Create new applications that improve how SpaceX operates
Build prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify technical constraints
Own all aspects of softwareengineering and product development
Deep dive into your users' problems to find and create efficient solutions
Bring your voice to the table in team collaborations on architecture, design, and code reviews
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline; OR 2+ years of professional experience building software in lieu of a degree
1+ years of experience in full stack development
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Programming experience in Python, C#.NET, Go, Scala, Java, or similar object-oriented language
1+ years of rigorous experience building single page web applications
Experience with version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery concepts
Expertise in designing software systems
Deep understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment & monitoring
Expertise in profiling and improving application performance
Experience with build systems (Make, Bazel/Pants/Buck, Gradle) and package management tools (pip, npm)
Experience with UNIX-like operating systems and tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet for managing them
Experience working with in-stream data processing using Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or similar technologies
Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Front-end experience in Angular, React, or similar JavaScript framework
Database experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar database technologies
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
You may be asked to work extended hours/weekends dependent on launch cadence
This role requires you to be onsite. Remote and/or hybrid work will not be considered
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
SoftwareEngineer/Level I: $120,000.00 - $145,000.00/per year
SoftwareEngineer/Level II: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. SECURITY SOFTWAREENGINEER - TOP SECRET CLEARANCE
As a Security SoftwareEngineer for the Special Programs team, you will contribute to the software development lifecycle for both application and hardware systems, particularly in U.S. Government and ITAR-controlled environments. Expertise in cybersecurity fundamentals and familiarity with ITAR regulations will be beneficial to securely handle ITAR-controlled technical data and payloads. A successful Security SoftwareEngineer will see the big picture, prioritize accordingly, and be comfortable working at different levels of abstraction. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain existing production systems and improve security posture via both direct implementation and recommendations to other teams
Build prototypes and help identify, design, and test security improvements
Implement and promote secure coding practices and software development security methodologies throughout the development lifecycle
Implement and enforce secure coding practices (SAST, DAST, threat modeling) throughout the software development lifecycle
Work closely with softwareengineers to set software needs, ensure hardware and software integrate smoothly, troubleshoot and fix major system problems
Partner with various teams to define software requirements, system design, and integration strategies
Review and guide software development for ITAR-controlled payloads, following all export laws and company rules strictly
Ensure all software work and outputs meet U.S. Government standards and ITAR regulations
Handle ITAR systems extensively, including controlling access to sensitive technical data and complying with all relevant rules
Create and update detailed software documentation, including design specs, test plans, verification steps, and reports needed for U.S. Government contracts and ITAR compliance
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or another STEM discipline; or 2+ years of professional experience in security software development in lieu of a degree
Experience with one or more software development languages (i.e. Python, C++, Golang)
Experience designing and implementing security solutions for operating systems, distributed systems, or other enterprise/large-scale infrastructure
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience contributing security improvements to complex systems
Fundamental understanding of network protocols; including the TCP/IP stack as well as UDP based protocols
Experienced in navigating large, complex, interactive systems

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Security SoftwareEngineer /Level I: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00/per year
Security SoftwareEngineer /Level II: $145,000.00 - $175,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. Those with an active clearance will receive a 10% differential, up to an additional $15,000 annually, once officially briefed into a classified program.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
