QUALITY INSPECTOR - SUPPLY CHAIN AVIONICS (REMOTE) - CALIFORNIA
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Travel up to 75% of the time to perform visual and dimensional inspections on manufactured parts, assemblies, and/or sub-assemblies at supplier sites and within incoming inspection areas
Select and utilize standard gauges to ensure quality
Inspect feature tolerances by selecting the tool with the required accuracy
Perform complex inspections on purchased mechanical parts, components, assemblies and materials
Resolve nonconformance and documentation issues, support Quality Management System policies and procedure documentation, assess compliance to company and industry standards, initiate and lead continual improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
Support the development of inspection plans at suppliers
Support supplier corrective action process, including verifying corrective action implementation
Provide support to both internal and external stakeholders on SpaceX requirements and inspection processes
Collaborate with teams, lead projects, and drive continuous improvement of processes both internally and at our suppliers
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalency certificate
2+ years of receiving, precision, or metrological inspection experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1+ years of experience leading a project and/or team
Experience detecting design, documentation, and drawing flaws
Experience as an avionics inspector for electro-mechanical components and assemblies such as wire harnesses and PCB/PCBAs

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications using ASME Y14.5
Lean manufacturing principles such as FIFO, 5S, material flow, etc.

Supplier Quality Inspector

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsible for inspecting products to ensure they meet quality and contract specifications and meet external certification standards.
Follow all company safety and quality requirements.
Ensure that all materials and workmanship are completed in accordance with UL, STI, API, AWS, AISC, or City of LA standards, drawings and specifications, as applicable per site.
Inspect materials and finished goods to ensure they meet customer requirements and/or contract specifications, including but not limited to checking welds, welding consumables, base material, cut & formed parts, layout work and coatings.
Review welding specs and/or requirements for each project and work with team to solve fabrication challenges.
Document and segregate non-conforming fabricated material and workmanship.
Review and work with site management & shop supervisor to address remedies for non-conformances and their prevention.
Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place for projects, as applicable per site.
Supervise and/or conduct Welder Qualification Test Reports (WQTR) to AWS (D1.1 and/or D1.5) and CWB standards, as applicable per site.
Annual calibration of welding equipment, QC inspection equipment and pre-qualifications for bolt, as applicable per site.
Remain current with AWS CWI and City of LA Supervisor &/or Inspector licenses, code analysis, industry standards, procedures and processes, as applicable per site.
Understand, support and implement company Quality Management System.
Work with Quality Assurance & Site Managers and Shop Supervisor to develop annual training programs for new and experienced employees to minimize product non-conformance.
Represent the company, as needed, on field issues requiring investigation and decisions associated with product quality and conformance.
Apply and work within appropriate controls related to Safety and Housekeeping.
Operate overhead crane safely.
Willing to work flexible hours and overtime or weekends as needed.
Prompt and dependable attendance.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALITIES
Welding inspection training.
Any applicable standards knowledge such as AWS, City of LA, API, UL, or STI.
A thorough knowledge of contract documents and blueprint reading.
