ASRC Federal spacecraft systems engineer job description

The Spacecraft Engineer (SE) is responsible verifying the health and safety of spacecraft. SE will review and analyze logs, trends and other tools utilized in a fully automated command and control system. Perform anomaly investigation and resolution of spacecraft and ground faults. Create, modify and maintain software scripts and procedures used in automated satellite tracking and monitoring. Interface with customers. Work closely with the spacecraft owners and get approval prior to any changes in the architecture to make sure faults do not get introduced into the spacecraft. Work with the factories and software teams through all stages of spacecraft life. Participate in the testing of new versions of the command and control software. Recommend to the technical staff and Station Manager any changes that can make the system perform better or reduce labor hours or streamline the process. Serve as part of an on call team and respond to critical errors at any time of the day
**Requirements** :

+ Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or a minimum of 5 years experience in the command and control of satellites.

+ Experience in the resolution of technical problems and the development of systems for use in spacecraft communication is desirable.

+ Previous experience providing engineering in satellite ground station and instrument control systems.

+ Experience with Linux or similar operating systems

+ Knowledge of industry practices, techniques, standards and proficiency with C, C++, Java and other high level languages.

+ Experience or classwork covering writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, Python, etc.)

+ Experience or classwork covering interacting with databases (examples: Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, etc.).

+ Understanding of networking technology, TCP/IP and common internet application protocols.

+ Excellent troubleshooting skills

+ Experience relevant to satellite communication systems is especially desirable.

+ Must have an active Secret clearance, and the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly

SPACECRAFT SYSTEMS ENGINEER II

Based out of Rocket Lab's global headquarters in Long Beach, CA, the Spacecraft Systems Engineer II is responsible for the development and maintenance of technical budgets, requirements definition, test planning and execution, and overall management of the systems engineering process. You will support the Chief Space Systems Engineer and Space Systems organization, with deliverables required for internal leadership, board of directors, and investors.

WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

  • Develop and maintain:
    • Technical budgets for vehicle performance
    • System requirements and verification techniques
    • Simulations and analysis across vehicle functions
    • Test methods and data analysis
  • Lead and own technical development of spacecraft missions
  • Assist with program and product management
  • Develop, in collaboration with team members, interface specifications, CONOPS definition, and other design documents

YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS ( Note: you must meet every qualification in order to be considered):

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience with satellite development programs

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Advanced degree in engineering or other technical discipline
  • Understanding of key spacecraft subsystems and their associated components, including: attitude determination and control (ADCS), electrical power systems (EPS), space-ground communications, on-orbit command and data handling (C&DH), and thermal control
  • Thorough understanding of the space environment, orbital mechanics, and rigid body dynamics
  • Experience with Matlab, Python, and STK
  • Experience with requirement management tools such as JAMA or DOORS
  • Experience with satellite operations
  • Experience with testing electrical subsystems and assemblies, thermal vacuum or random vibration, and hardware-in-the loop (HITL) testing
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with competing priorities
