Spanish Fort Fire Rescue company history timeline

1985

By 1985, there were over 1,000 career firefighters, thus making the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department the largest fire department in the Commonwealth of Virginia and one of the best in the nation.

New Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) were begun and ultimately finished in 1985;

1999

1999 - April - The Board of Supervisors appointed Chief Edward L. Stinnette as the department's sixth Fire Chief.

2001

2001 - April - Fire Station 39 (Northpoint) opens.

2003

2003 - May - Chief Stinnette retires and Assistant Chief Michael P. Neuhard appointed Acting Fire Chief

2007

2007 - January – Chief Neuhard retires and Assistant Chief David L. Rohr is appointed as Acting Fire Chief

2011

2011 - New EMS reporting technology is introduced with the implementation of the ePCR reporting system.

2019

Mayor Mike McMillan said the increase would be about enough to cover the department’s 2019-20 deficit of $179,000.

2020

Councilman Curt Smith said those plans were postponed in 2020 when the COVID-19 outbreak disrupted city operations and reduced revenue.

2021

The mayor said city officials expect to have between $10 million and $11 million in revenue in 2021.

During election years, the city does not approve a new budget until the new term begins, so the city has not approved funding for the department for 2021, McMillan said.
