Spartanburg County company history timeline

1831

In 1831 the town incorporated and a couple of decades later it became known as the “Hub City” due to the wheel hub shape formed by the many railroad lines that came in to the area.

1927

The first airport in South Carolina was the Spartanburg Downtown Airport, opened in 1927.

1946

Founded in 1946, their "chili-cheese-a-plenty" burger is still busting guts today.

1957

In September 1957, a planning meeting was held at Converse College and was attended by James Buchanan, Louisa Carlisle, Frank Coleman, Charles Lindsay, and Elford Morgan.

One of the first programs offered by the Historical Association was a Fall Tour, held on Sunday, October 27, 1957, to four historic houses in the county: The Seay House, the Doctor Pinckney Miller House, the Thomas Price House, and Walnut Grove Plantation.
