Position Summary
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the assigned section to include, planning, organizing, and directing the activities of technical and non-technical personnel to ensure optimal, cost-effective delivery of services according to department standards of quality, productivity, and performance. The supervisor will serve as a resource to identify, investigate, resolve, and monitor concerns, acting as a liaison for all levels of staff and collaborating with managers to ensure uninterrupted workflow. The Laboratory Supervisor performs various quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory studies to comply with physician requests for analyses of blood, body fluids, and tissues, providing data for diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The supervisor must follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures, and understand and comply with department policies, procedures, and regulations, including Standards of Behavior.
Minimum Requirements
Education
* Associate degree in a related field
Experience
* Five years laboratory experience within depth knowledge of laboratory operations
License/Registration/Certifications
* Certification by an acceptable laboratory registry as a MLT, MT, MLS, HT, HTL (as applicable)

Core Job Responsibilities
* Provide and understand the specific communication needs of laboratory patients and families ranging from neonate-birth to geriatric.
* Make decisions about sample collection and handling, perform testing of samples, and maintain accurate records and reporting of test results with knowledge of abnormal, normal and critical values.
* Perform instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control.
* Withstand the stress and demands of an active position while responding calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.

* Ensure all associates complete the annual CAP competency requirements for respective area.
* Maintain in-depth technical knowledge in all areas of department and perform competently in all areas of responsibility.
* Possess a high level of mental acuity with special attention to detail.
* Work independently with minimal supervision.
* May be required to modify hours, due to departmental needs.

* Phlebotomist/Computer Operator/Processor is responsible for procurement and distribution of specimens, (blood, urine, etc.), computer data entry and operation of computer equipment.
