Department Description
We are a comprehensive breast imaging center providing services across nine fixed locations and two Mobile Mammography Units. The expert and caring staff at Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health are fellowship-trained, board-certified specialists who focus on breast health. We conduct hundreds of mammograms each week and diagnose and treat more than four hundred patients each year.
Under the supervision of a Radiologist, you will utilize specialized knowledge and skills to produce high-quality mammographic images for screening and/or diagnosis, invasive breast procedures, and DEXA exams for specified patient population.
As an imaging professional, you'll be aligned with the latest technology, evidence-based medicine, and clinical research.

For technologists with no prior mammography experience, we offer a comprehensive 12-week training program that will equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to provide high-quality breast care.
For experienced technologists we provide an abbreviated training program that includes a comprehensive review of our protocols, machines, and IT platforms.

Position Summary
Under the supervision of a Radiologist, utilizes specialized knowledge and skills to produce high quality mammographic images for screening and/or diagnosis, invasive breast procedures and DEXA exams for specified patient population. Assumes responsibility for directing and controlling qualitative and quantitative standards of work performed at Bearden-Josey Centers of Breast Health.
Minimum Requirements
Education
* Associate's Degree from an approved AMA School of Radiologic Technology
Experience
* Documented 40 hours of training specific to mammography as required by the FDA
* Documented 8 hours training in each mammography modality to be used to perform exam as required by the FDA
* Documented performance of 200 mammogram exams in the last two years as required by the FDA
* Documented 15 hours of continuing education , 3 years consecutively as required by the FDA
License/Registration/Certifications
* ARRT registry in Radiography with registry or registry eligible status in Mammography
* South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association Licenses
* Current Basis Life Support (CPR and AED) provider

Core Job Responsibilities
* Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets and related equipment to produce special images of specific body parts. Position patients for MR scans using immobilization and protective equipment as required.
* Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence per protocol and appropriately label. Complete appropriate documentation on all systems, mark review and transmit to PACS in a timely manner.
* Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedure performance. Screen and maintain safety zones for all personnel and guests entering the MRI area
* Assist other healthcare professionals with imaging procedures, starting IV's, delivery of oral contrast and injecting contrast, when applicable.
* Assist radiologist with interventional MR procedures
* Positively responds and implements change when needed and has good decision making skills.
* Assists with quality control and maintenance of all equipment in the area
* Properly utilize accessory equipment such as injectors, patient moving devices, stretchers, warmers, scanners, printers, and PACS workstations
* Prepare patients for procedures, explain procedures to patients. Report changes in patient condition to medical staff. Provide an oral and/or written clinical history to the radiologist and other healthcare professionals.
* Assists in training of new staff and of students during clinical rotations
* Follows, maintains and helps implement hospital and departmental policies and procedures
* Consistently communicates with patients, guests, staff and physicians in a positive manner
* Knowledgeable of compliance and regulatory requirements and adheres to Federal, State, accrediting bodies, and standard practice of care for patients, staff, guests and facilities
* Adheres to departmental procedures and protocols
* Rotating schedules for after-hours call and holidays
* Ensure correct charging of procedures and supplies on a daily basis

Responsibilities: * Verifies patient identification by verbal response comparing two identifiers- the requisition and chart. * Ensures correct procedure is done by checking the order, calls for order clarification as needed and documents order clarification correctly.
* Treats patient and procedure in accordance with the McLeod Health Confidentiality policy.
* Completes annual training and demonstrates age-specific care thereby meeting the needs of patient population served.
* Greets and assists patient with appropriate attire for procedure, thoroughly explains procedure, length, and expectations along with desired results.
* Expresses sincere concern for patient's well-being by conveying the feeling that they are the reason we are here and to reduce the patient's anxiety.
* Selects and utilizes appropriate technical factors for procedure based on body habitus, pathology, and body part while consistently positioning patient properly during procedure.
* Verifies that all images obtained have crossed over successfully into Pacs and are of high quality prior to forwarding to the Radiologists for interpretation.
* Demonstrates knowledge of C-Arm/Fluro equipment being used when assisting with Pain mgmt procedures.
* Demonstrates thorough knowledge of imaging equipment being used, which will be listed on the Competency Skills Checklist.
* Maintains attention to equipment and patient during procedure.
* Maintains acceptable completion time based on the complexity of the procedure and or condition of the patient thereby demonstrating good utilization of time through productivity.
* Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technologist.
