While job responsibilities will vary dependent upon clinical practice needs - in which case we require a large degree of flexibility - in general, they will include the following: - Provide administrative support to healthcare providers within an engaging ambulatory setting, and function as the primary interface between the patients and medical team. - Schedule patient appointments, diagnostic testing, and surgeries. - Acquire referrals and pre-certifications as needed. - Register and/update demographic, PCP, and insurance information. - Collect co-payments and fees. - Coordinate details of billing. - Answer phones, and triage calls as appropriate. - Photocopying, faxing, and filing. Qualifications * Associate or Bachelors degree, or equivalent secretarial training preferred. - 1+ years' experience in a healthcare setting required for Level I role. (Additional experience required for higher level positions.) - Proven understanding of managed care and other insurance-related coverage plans. - Digital literacy, including proficiency with Windows-based computer applications is crucial. - Proven, accurate typing and data entry skills. - Prior experience helping a wide variety of customers. - Knowledge of EPIC software a plus! - Strong patient service orientation and well-developed social and interpersonal skills. - You are available to complete a four-day, operations training program, and able to work part-time or full-time, Monday-Friday, days. - Ideal candidates should be able to retain information quickly, with a "can-do," positive demeanor, with a shown ability to be both reliable and punctual. Interventions will focus on mental health, obesity/weight management, and cancer screening and are part of a large, multisite grant. CHWs will receive formal training in their intervention of focus. Part Time 20 Hours Job Summary This is a part-time position for someone interested in helping patients with complex psychiatric, medical and social problems improve their access and utilization of psychiatric/health care services. A Community Health Worker (CHW) is a trusted member of the community who helps patients better access and coordinate their psychiatric care. We believe that CHWs have the skills and experience to understand what patients are going through and help them address the social and medical problems that lead to poor health. The goal of a community health worker is to assist the most high-risk patients with the tasks of getting psychiatric/medical care, working on health goals (such as arranging care, filling medication prescriptions, planning healthy meals, or finding time to exercise), and to help them deal with the "real-life" issues that keep them from staying healthy. Although a CHW is not in a clinical role, having the capacity to learn basic clinical concepts in order to identify when a referral to a licensed clinician is appropriate is an important skill. The CHW will work with patients receiving care at Brigham and Women's Hospital outpatient psychiatric clinic. CHWs are integrated into the outpatient psychiatric team, serving as a bridge between the team and patients in the community.
