Position Summary: Lead, Unit Secretary
Performs a variety of computer, clerical, and supply functions necessary for the operation of the unit. Handles and controlling written and verbal communications between unit personnel and numerous physicians, ancillary services, patients, visitors, and families.
Responsibilities:
* Acts as a liaison between patient, hospital personnel, visitors, and ancillary departments.
* Performs all clerical functions within the department.
* Provides direct patient care as a member of a collaborative team.
* Performs indirect patient care functions on the unit as a member of a collaborative team.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
* Filling all needs/holes in the staffing schedule
* Assisting scheduler as needed
* Ordering Unit Supplies
* Training new clerical staff

As the Unit Secretary, you will provide secretarial and clerical support to the nursing unit to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the nursing unit.

* Answers telephone on the unit in a respectful and professional manner; relays messages to appropriate parties in a timely manner.
* Schedules appointments for procedures and tests, obtains results, and files results in patient charts.
* Arranges for consults with physicians.
* Prepares patient charts for admission and disassembles charts for discharge, records information according to Health Information System standards.
* Assists in including arranging patient transport as needed, assigns room for cleaning.
* Transports specimens to the lab.
* Obtains supplies from internal sources such as Materials Management department.
* Maintains a clean and secure environment to ensure efficient and safe operation of the nursing unit.

As a Unit coordinator you will play a critical role in patient care by serving as the central source of information by communicating with patients, families, and medical staff. You will transcribe medical charts for patients to ensure that all their medical treatments and procedures are carried out. Provides administrative support to unit-based and hospital-wide clinicians and staff, functioning as the liaison between the patient, visitors and the clinicians. * Schedules consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport to other departments.
* Enters into electronic medical record accurate and timely information about admissions, discharges and transfers to facilitate efficient patient throughput.
* Contacts ancillary service departments to obtain equipment, services and supplies; tracks status and location; uses designated process for identifying and facilitating repairs.
* May assist manager with payroll duties or scheduling of staff, or supervision of unitsecretaries. Duties may vary by department.
Qualifications
Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Related Field of Study preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Certified Health Unit Coordinator - National Association of Health Unit Coordinators (NAHUC) preferred Experience Administrative support experience 2-3 years required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Proficiency with office procedures and equipment i.e. filing, copying, scanning, printing and faxing. - Proficiency in MS Office. - Ability to proofread and edit written documents. - Ability to use phone system. - Managing one's own time and the time of others. - Strong verbal & written communication skills. - Strong interpersonal, written and oral skills. - Ability to use standard office equipment. - Familiarity with medical terminology.
