Part-time Description
The SpecialEducationTeacher provides direct services to students based on their individualized education plan (IEP); consults with other professionals; discusses progress with parents and teachers; plans, delivers, and evaluates instructional outcomes; and provides instruction through an inclusion model and/or small group pull-out. The teacher understands and promotes the school's mission, vision, values, and key goals both within and outside of the immediate school community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Essential functions:
Confers with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet the individual needs of the students.
Collaborates with Lead teachers to incorporate accommodations to the curriculum. Helps to develop and implement lesson plans.
Assists students in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects.
Coordinates and provides necessary and appropriate services for students.
Guides and reinforces students' understanding of classroom rules and procedures.
Writes (and updates) goals and objectives for IEPs.
Organizes and leads IEP meetings and provides necessary documentation.
Administers and interprets individual formal and informal assessments.
Documents student achievement and progress toward their objectives and goals.
Provides progress reports and timely communication with parents/guardians.
Establishes relationships and maintains regular communication with parents regarding their child's specific needs and accomplishments.
Maintains all required paperwork to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
Provides model of exemplary conduct for students.
Promotes community through attendance and participation in school events that occur after the school day (e.g. All-School Picnic, Open House, Winter Celebration, Cultural Celebration, Annual Meeting, etc.).

Education:

This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site. This is a year-round teaching position and is not seasonal.

Applicants must meet the Adult Basic Education (ABE) credentials determined by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS).

The school calendar follows the typical 180 educational days with the opportunity to attend Extended School Year for students in need of this programming.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Collaborate with Education Leadership team to understand the overall classroom structure, schedule, student dynamics, and learning paths for the different subject areas.
In the absence of the classroom teacher and need for classroom supplies, submits purchase requests for reimbursement to immediate supervisor for prior approval.

Niles Community Schools is looking for dynamic SpecialEducation Resource Teachers. Highly effective communication skills and professionalism are required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration, and community.
Required Qualifications:
Certified to teach in the State of Michigan with a Cognitive Impairments (SA), Emotional Impairments (SE), Learning Disabilities (SM), or Autism (SV) endorsement
Preferred qualifications:
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (non-prioritized):
Utilize a variety of research-based intervention strategies, continually assessing student response to intervention, and make modifications as needed to ensure all students are successful
Act as a case coordinator by preparing for, participating in, and ensuring IEP implementation according to the school process
Ability to align student goals and objectives with district and state standards
Competent in using a variety of technology applications related to both classroom management and the instructional process
Manage and instruct students on appropriate behavior using positive behavior strategies consistent with Board policy and procedures

Job Description The Teacher will plan and implement weekly lesson plans, and manage the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.
Duties
Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards
Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage physical, social, cognitive and emotional growth.
Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
Ensure a healthy classroom environment - including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
Supervise teacher assistants and to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.

Requirements
Associate's Degree in early childhood education or the non credit based: Introduction to the Child Care Profession, Skills and Strategies for the Child Care Teacher and Fundamentals of Infant Toddler Care.

A strong understanding of child development.
Infant/child CPR certification.

Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
