QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications for Special Education Teacher:
· 1 year of verifiable, professional experience as Special Education Teacher within the last 3 years (may include residency or clinical practicum)
· Valid Special Education Teacher credential/license or in process in state of practice

REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal
JOB GOAL: All EastSide teachers will play an essential role in the growth and development of each of our students. All of our students come from underrepresented ethnic groups and many are performing several grade levels below their current grade level. Our teachers own the responsibility to plan, instruct, assess, lead, mentor, and guide each of our students to academic success overcoming all hurdles and obstacles to ensuring academic success. All teachers are responsible for the successful design, development, and implementation of academic lessons, working with other teachers and staff to analyze, assess, and improve the educational experience for our students. The special education teacher is a team member who works in collaboration with the general education teachers using primarily an inclusion model. The special education teachers primary role is to remove barriers that get in the way of success, encourage academic, social, and emotional growth, and ensure all student's on their caseload are successfully meeting individualized goal through the implementation of accommodations and services within the least restrictive environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Each of our teachers will:

Special Education teachers will:
Develop, monitor, and implement Individualized Education Plans for all students on their caseload
Evaluate student progress and/or implementation of IEP benchmarks for the sake of reporting progress regularly.
Plan and lead lessons to students in a variety of individual and small group sessions
Observe, record, and chart behavior in accordance with formal Behavior Intervention Plans
Prepare classroom materials related to students IEP goals or modifications/accommodations.
Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives
Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting specific students
Attend meetings and in-service professional developments for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
Adhere to all Federal and State regulations in regards to timelines, policies and procedures for the purpose of compliance and accountability
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution. Has or is eligible for State of Delaware certification as a special education teacher K-12.
Experience:
EastSide teachers must have:
at least one year of teaching experience (two years' experience preferred)
an outstanding record of elevating student achievement in an urban classroom, with a strong understanding of pedagogy that drives results

POSITION GOAL:
The goal of the Special Education Elementary Teacher is to provide high-quality, specialized instruction that enables students with disabilities to make meaningful academic, social, and emotional progress. This position aims to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where diverse learners can develop the skills needed for academic success and increased independence while fostering positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering instruction based on the approved curriculum and Common Core State Standards to help students move towards academic proficiency.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

POSITION OVERVIEW
Under direction of the Building Principal, the Teacher of Multi-Language Learners plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
Know and understand all Adult Education Programs
Develop a positive relationship with students
Understand the process of student enrollment, including application, pre-assessment, initial interview, placement
Understand attendance police and enforce it
Teach ABE/ESL/GED courses and ensure all students have obtained a level gain
Work with Career and College Counselor to ensure all students have placement in a job or post-secondary training
Teach ABE/GED/ESL curriculum
Use planning times constructively to create lessons and activities for students
Using data, create individualized plans for each student
Counsel students when needed or upon the recommendation of faculty and staff
Work with Principal, Counselor to set NRS and State goals. Follow up with students to ensure goals have been set and met
Work with Principal, Career and College Counselor to ensure all ABE students are placed into post-secondary training, retain or obtain a job
Work with Principal, Counselor to create a schedule to meet with all ABE students about their educational needs and track
Assist to monitor and maintain student goals on a quarterly basis
Work with the Principal to oversee student counselor assignments and keep accurate records.
Follow-up on inquiries and referrals from potential students
Keep abreast on GED updates, curriculum changes and initiatives
Ensure all students meet educational goals including but not exclusive to NRS gain, NRS goal and GED obtainment
Facilitate Writing COA Goals for each student
Actively work and assist to help to meet all school goals
Utilize LACES, Schoology and email as needed and assigned
Work and behave in a professional manner. Help to maintain the school's professional appearance
Maintain high time on task
Maintain accurate records
Any other assigned duties
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Below are the qualifications for this position:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
Hold or eligible for State of Delaware Certification as an English as a Second Language Teacher
Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills
