Job Description Special Education Teachers are responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and collaborating with general education teachers, families, and support staff to promote each student's success. Special Education teachers report to and are supported by the District Special Education Manager, who provides leadership in all areas of special education programming. In collaboration with the School Principal, the Manager also supports the consistent implementation of attendance and behavioral procedures. Key Responsibilities Instructional Planning and Delivery * Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student's needs. * Deliver instruction aligned with Arkansas Academic Standards and adapted to students' abilities. * Utilize evidence-based strategies to support diverse learners. * Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Help Build a Positive School and Classroom Culture * Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusive practices. * Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and IEP goals. * Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and professional development sessions. Demonstrate a Growth Mindset * Maintain accurate records of student performance and IEP implementation. * Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations on special education. * Prepare reports and documentation as required by ADE and school policies. Other Responsibilities (As Needed) Duties and responsibilities may evolve as school needs change. Teachers and instructional staff may be asked to perform additional tasks to support student achievement, school culture, and team collaboration. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field required. Licenses: Standard Arkansas Teaching License in Special Education K-12; or eligible for licensure through reciprocity; or enrolled in an Alternative Licensure Program (ALP). Experience: Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred. * Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprinting and child maltreatment registry checks. * Ongoing participation in professional development activities as required by ADE. * Strong understanding of special education laws and best practices. * Ability to develop and implement effective instructional strategies. * Excellent communication and collaboration skills. * Experience teaching in a KIPP or other high-performing charter school environment preferred. * Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
