Essential Functions:

· Administer national, state, and district assessments throughout the year in order to evaluate students' abilities and design group and individualized teaching plans and lessons to meet the needs of their assigned grade band.

· Coach/mentor paraprofessionals and classroom assistants who work with students within their assigned grade band.
· Collaborate with each student's support team (i.e. dedicated Assistant Teacher, BCBA, OT and SLP) to create comprehensive intervention plans including the management of student's behavioral patterns, language/communication, and motor/sensory needs.

The teacher assesses the needs of students, and supports students in their educational goals as determined by the students Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Provides individual and small group push-in or pull-out instruction as assigned.

Complete quarterly progress reports on each student in the program.

The Compass Program is a short-term alternative program that provides intensive behavior and social-emotional intervention to students to prepare them for a successful transition as they return to the comprehensive school setting. This position is responsible for specialeducation resource instruction using a push-in model. The person in this position is expected to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program for a K-8 environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. They must demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds. They will participate in professional activities as well as extracurricular and/or academic support activities.
This position is part of the specialeducation team and reports to the principal.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide instruction to students in multiple grade levels, as needed based on Compass Program
enrollment.
Utilize PBIS as well as other district adopted Social-Emotional curriculum and instructional tools
as a primary method of teaching and supporting students related to social-emotional well-being.
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans, instructional materials, and tests to facilitate active learning.
Instruct, encourage and monitor students' learning-adjusting strategies as needed to optimize learning.
Assign, grade and provide feedback on class work, homework, tests and assignments.
Maintain accurate, complete records of students' progress and prepare all required related documentation.
Participate and contribute as requested in meetings with department, school, district, parents and community.
Manage student behavior and maintain discipline in accordance with district rules and procedures.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
Participate in extracurricular and academic support activities as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position involves prolonged sitting, standing, walking, talking, and hearing; occasional stooping, bending, and reaching; some pushing, pulling, lifting, kneeling, balancing, and crouching. The position involves having close visual acuity to perform activities of the job. The position also requires the operation of learning technologies such as computers, handheld devices, etc. as well as relevant office equipment. Work is performed mostly in an indoor environment, with occasional outdoor requirements. Work is performed in a generally clean and hazard-free environment.
