RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY: Perform a full range of educational/non-educational duties for the specific intensive needs of primarily one student. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Provide instructional and behavioral support in all academic and related areas as directed by the teacher primarily for an individual student. Provide support to special education teacher such as preparing materials, assist in the implementation of IEP (Individualized Education Plan), provide input into the IEP when appropriate, deliver instructional materials for individual students, keep attendance and activity records, collect data for progress monitoring, and implement behavior intervention plans. Administer all medications, within the guidelines of District Policy JLCD to students and document appropriately as identified in District policy. District Area Nurse will delegate medication administration to Para-Educator. Para-Educator will follow medication administration protocols and guidelines under the Department of Health Services and will be monitored, documented, and audited by the District Area Nurse. Perform assigned lunch/recess/bus duties which include supervision in the cafeteria, playground and pre/post boarding of buses. Perform health and personal need duties as directed by teacher or nurse, including bathroom assistance, diapering, feeding and lifting students. Apply de-escalation strategies and manage classroom behavior. Perform restraints, if required or applicable, after attending district approved trainings. Participate in required Medicaid and Random Moment in Time Study provider trainings. Document personal care and/or delegated nursing services on a regular basis in EZEDMed system for Medicaid reimbursement purposes. Maintain confidential information as directed. Provide support for any student as directed. Attend district-provided trainings and professional development as directed. Perform other duties as assigned. This role helps create a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Key Responsibilities Instructional Support Support students individually or in small groups by reinforcing lessons, assisting with academic tasks, adapting materials, and supporting the use of instructional and assistive technology as directed by the teacher. Student Support & Daily Living Skills Assist students with personal care needs such as toileting, feeding, hygiene, and mobility respectfully and confidentially. Support the development of self-help, communication, and functional skills within the school setting. Behavioral Support Implement behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supports. Assist with monitoring behavior, providing redirection, and supporting emotional regulation to ensure a safe learning environment. Data Collection & Documentation Collect and record data on student performance and behavior as directed by the teacher or IEP team. Assist with maintaining accurate records related to student progress. Supervision & Safety Supervise students during instructional time, transitions, lunch, recess, transportation, drills, and field trips. Ensure student safety at all times and follow school and district procedures. Collaboration & Communication Work collaboratively with teachers, related service providers, administrators, and support staff. Communicate observations and concerns professionally while maintaining student confidentiality. Classroom Support Assist with organizing the classroom, preparing materials, setting up instructional equipment, and maintaining a clean and organized learning environment. Qualifications & Skills High school diploma or GED required Paraprofessional certification, college coursework, or state-required assessment preferred Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting is preferred Knowledge of special education practices, child development, and positive behavior supports Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills Self-motivated and can work independently under the instruction of the Special Education Teacher. Patience, flexibility, and the ability to respond to diverse student needs Ability to follow teacher direction and work as part of a collaborative team Physical ability to lift, bend, stand, and assist students with mobility and personal care tasks
