GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The job of a teacher is to provide general education instruction to youth enrolled in a behavioral
self-contained program. This position will work collaboratively with specialeducators and mental
health professionals to provide a cohesive program for students who are unable to access the
educational program in a less restrictive environment due to their behavioral and emotional
needs.
The teacher facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills through
documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational
needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback
to students, families, specialists, and administration regarding student progress, expectations,
and goals. The teacher will instruct and supervise a diverse group of students by establishing a
positive, respectful learning environment while promoting high standards of performance for all

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Valid Oregonteacher's license with appropriate subject area endorsement
2. Familiarity with a variety of age appropriate instructional, assessment, and student

A primary focus is the diagnosis of learning needs and the writing and implementation of Individual Education Programs (IEP) for identified students. In addition, the specialeducationteacher will consult and provide assistance to classroom teachers with regard to methods and materials for specialeducation students in the regular classroom. Assistant Position Summary:
The Assistant Teacher is responsible for participating as part of a cohesive teaching team, assisting the Lead Teacher in coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Assistant Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. Assistant Position Summary:

Physical Requirements of the Job:
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
Frequent bending/crouching down to the floor, sitting in small chairs, sitting on the floor actively engaging in activities with children.
Physical ability to move quickly in order to redirect children for the purpose of ensuring a child's safety or the safety of others in the environment.
Ability to respond appropriately both physically and mentally to an emergency or crisis situation, such as to provide CPR and/or First Aid to a pre-school age child, to evacuate a building, etc.
In a normal workday, may stand/walk 6 hrs./day
May use hands for repetitive grasping, pushing and pulling, may use hands at or above shoulder level.
Must be able to communicate with children at their eye level
