Role Expectations
The SpecialEducationTeacher works closely with the Lead Teachers, the Dean of Academics and the Executive Director to support CCA scholars who are at-risk for academic underperformance due to emotional, cognitive, and/or physical challenges so that they can succeed in the school's academic program. The SpecialEducationTeacher holds primary responsibility for managing the school's specialeducation caseload, monitoring scholar IEPs, and providing academic, emotional, and physical support and interventions for scholars who require additional support to thrive within the school's inclusion model. SpecialEducationTeachers will support teachers in all academic subject areas.
Responsibilities and Duties:
SpecialEducation Program
Ensure I operate in compliance with specialeducation law and procedures at all times.
Serve as the case manager for scholars who have IEPs on case load
Attend all required charter school sponsor specialeducation training and workshops.
Participate in the school's pre-referral and IEP and 504 processes.
Participate in the development of Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) (and potentially 504 plans) as needed.
Develop expertise with the school's literacy program and ways to successfully adapt literacy instruction to all specialeducation scholars.
Within caseload:
Ensure scholar IEP requirements and 504 plan accommodations on caseload are being met.
Assess and report mastery of IEP goals to parents and other members of the scholar's support team.
Maintain all specialeducation records according to privacy and confidentiality requirements.
Communicate regularly with parents and as required by law to support specialeducation scholar learning needs.
Participate in and collaborate with school leader or SPED coordinator to lead multi-disciplinary team meetings, including but not limited to annual, eligibility, re-evaluation, and manifestation determination meetings.
Instructional Collaboration and Support
Provide direct intervention (i.e. instruction) to scholars in accordance with their IEP requirements.
Assist teachers to adapt weekly lesson plans and instructional for individual scholars that require additional support to experience a high-quality curriculum.
Assist teachers to utilize effective teaching strategies to support specialeducation scholars in the least restrictive manner.
Implement scholar behavior supports consistent with specialeducation laws and scholar IEPs to achieve an optimal learning classroom learning environment.
Assessment and Data
Participate cooperatively in CCA's assessment system and data platforms to monitor specialeducation scholars' learning and progression.
Administer alternative assessments in accordance with CCA's testing programs and state testing requirements.
Evaluate scholar's academic and SEL growth, keep appropriate records, prepare scholar reports and regularly communicate with parents regarding their scholar's progress.
General Responsibilities
Regularly participate in CCA's professional development program, including CCA's annual summer professional development prior to school opening.
Actively participate in CCA's instructional coaching program (coach and be coached).
Supervise scholars in out-of-classroom activities on rotating schedules. Examples include, but are not limited to: cafeteria duty, bus monitor, and recess duty. Not sure if this should be part of my , but I'm ok with it.
Communicate with parents, CCA leadership team, and CCA colleagues in a timely, consistent manner.
Attend school wide functions and community events as requested.
The SpecialEducationTeacher will perform other duties as required to achieve the school's mission.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred.
South Carolina teaching certification in relevant specialeducation teaching field is required.
Expertise and knowledge of applicable specialeducation laws and procedures.
Proven track-record of achievement as a teacher, instructional coach, or academic leader.
Experience working with a culturally diverse student body preferred.
Ability to:

What you'll be doing:

PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan and appropriately document an educational program that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of assigned students;
2. Create an instructional environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students;
3. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and - in harmony with the goals - establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc. to communicate those objectives to students;
4. Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives;
5. Assess student performance on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required;
6. Use data-based decision making to adjust instructional strategies, methods, and materials to improve student performance;
7. Collaborate with colleagues, students and/or parents to facilitate and improve student engagement;
8. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner;
9. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistant(s) and/or volunteer(s) and cooperatively, with department head or principal, evaluate their job performance;
10. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence; and
11. Attend staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. 12. Activities of daily living, such as toileting and feeding, may be required based on the needs of the assigned students.
SECONDARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components; Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time; Must have patience, compassion, and a keen desire to work with children; Work is performed in a normal heated or air-conditioned School environment; Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Role Expectations
The SpecialEducationTeacher works closely with the Lead Teachers, the Dean of Academics and the Executive Director to support CCA scholars who are at-risk for academic underperformance due to emotional, cognitive, and/or physical challenges so that they can succeed in the school's academic program. The SpecialEducationTeacher holds primary responsibility for managing the school's specialeducation caseload, monitoring scholar IEPs, and providing academic, emotional, and physical support and interventions for scholars who require additional support to thrive within the school's inclusion model. SpecialEducationTeachers will support teachers in all academic subject areas.
Responsibilities and Duties:
SpecialEducation Program
Ensure I operate in compliance with specialeducation law and procedures at all times.
Serve as the case manager for scholars who have IEPs on case load
Attend all required charter school sponsor specialeducation training and workshops.
Participate in the school's pre-referral and IEP and 504 processes.
Participate in the development of Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) (and potentially 504 plans) as needed.
Develop expertise with the school's literacy program and ways to successfully adapt literacy instruction to all specialeducation scholars.
Within caseload:
Ensure scholar IEP requirements and 504 plan accommodations on caseload are being met.
Assess and report mastery of IEP goals to parents and other members of the scholar's support team.
Maintain all specialeducation records according to privacy and confidentiality requirements.
Communicate regularly with parents and as required by law to support specialeducation scholar learning needs.
Participate in and collaborate with school leader or SPED coordinator to lead multi-disciplinary team meetings, including but not limited to annual, eligibility, re-evaluation, and manifestation determination meetings.
Instructional Collaboration and Support
Provide direct intervention (i.e. instruction) to scholars in accordance with their IEP requirements.
Assist teachers to adapt weekly lesson plans and instructional for individual scholars that require additional support to experience a high-quality curriculum.
Assist teachers to utilize effective teaching strategies to support specialeducation scholars in the least restrictive manner.
Implement scholar behavior supports consistent with specialeducation laws and scholar IEPs to achieve an optimal learning classroom learning environment.
Assessment and Data
Participate cooperatively in CCA's assessment system and data platforms to monitor specialeducation scholars' learning and progression.
Administer alternative assessments in accordance with CCA's testing programs and state testing requirements.
Evaluate scholar's academic and SEL growth, keep appropriate records, prepare scholar reports and regularly communicate with parents regarding their scholar's progress.
General Responsibilities
Regularly participate in CCA's professional development program, including CCA's annual summer professional development prior to school opening.
Actively participate in CCA's instructional coaching program (coach and be coached).
Supervise scholars in out-of-classroom activities on rotating schedules. Examples include, but are not limited to: cafeteria duty, bus monitor, and recess duty. Not sure if this should be part of my , but I'm ok with it.
Communicate with parents, CCA leadership team, and CCA colleagues in a timely, consistent manner.
Attend school wide functions and community events as requested.

Schedule, organize and conduct IEP related meetings in a virtual environment, as needed;
Participate in the school's Student Support Team; help teachers and learning coaches develop and implement program modifications and strategies for all students;
Assist, as needed, with the organization and proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the IEP process;
Assist with locating service providers for students needing related services as mandated by their IEPs;
Assist with negotiating and executing contracts with service providers for students requiring such services;
Maintain accurate and up-to-date data in the school's Learning Management System and specialeducation software;
Assist with administering state testing and coordinate the special adaptations that are required based on the IEP; and
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Degree in SpecialEducation or related Education Field
Valid South CarolinaSpecialEducation certification
Additional certification in a core content area preferred
Experience in policy (IDEA) and/or administration with SpecialEducation
Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products)
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Customer focused approach
High degree of flexibility
Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
Team player track record
Willingness to travel on occasion for marketing and state testing events
