Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, learning activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect an understanding of students' learning styles and individual needs, in either English or Spanish as appropriate.
Assess the on-going accomplishments and needs of students; maintain appropriate records; provide immediate feedback and progress reports on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.
Implement instructional and linguistic modifications and accommodations per Admission, Review, Dismissal ARD and/or LPAC decisions with students receiving services under all federal and state guidelines.
Work cooperatively with general education and specialeducationteachers to support receiving specialeducation services according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

The Kinkaid School is seeking a student-centered and innovative History and Social Sciences Teacher to join its Upper School team starting August 2026. The ideal candidate will have a passion for collaboration with colleagues and proven success in connecting the content to students' innate inquisitiveness and critical thinking skills. Reporting to the Upper School History and Social Sciences Department Chair, the Upper School History and Social Sciences Teacher will be called on to promote high levels of learning in an engaging and effective manner using various teaching methods and curriculum resources. This teacher must embrace and help advance the principles set out in Kinkaid's core documents: mission and core values, DEI commitment and strategic plan, Upper School Educational Philosophy and Portrait of a Teacher.
The Kinkaid School is a co-educational non-sectarian day school enrolling over 1,500 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the School offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, diverse culture.
With an enrollment of about 630, the Upper School fosters a learning environment centered on academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and personal attention. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach four academic classes in history and social sciences; either world or US history plus psychology
Serve as an advisor to ten to fifteen upper school students
Work collaboratively within teaching teams to develop unit plans and assessments
Serve as a member of the History and Social Sciences Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department
Sponsor of a club, affinity group, student government, or a student leadership organization
Maintain regular office hours starting at 7:30 am
Facilitate open, informative, and friendly communications with students and parents both verbally and in writing
Participate in Interim Term during the month of January
Engage in the school community by attending programs and events outside of department, such as athletic competitions, art events, or all-school community programs
Prioritize professional development and remaining current in the field of effective teaching
Commitment to model Kinkaid's mission and four core values (honesty, responsibility, respect, and kindness) in interactions with all members of the community
Demonstrate collegiality and high professional standards
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in history, psychology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
Experience teaching upper school students with mastery in effectively delivering history content
Enjoyment in teaching students across the entire range of grades (9-12)
Core knowledge about the development of upper school age children

JOB SUMMARY.
A Second Baptist School teacher must be able to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Teacher work is performed under the supervision of the head of upper school, the assistant head of upper school and the dean of faculty.

CLASSROOM TEACHER JOB SUMMARY.
Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and tests in accordance with established procedures.
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Second Baptist School.
Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies.
Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by school administration.
Actively participate in school departmental and parent meetings.
Observe and evaluate student performance and development to provide appropriate feedback and prepare required reports on students and activities.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities to students, colleagues and parents.
Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests and assignments, as appropriate by grade level.

Ideal candidates should have prior teaching experience and/or hold a teacher certification from a state agency or school accreditation agency.
An advanced degree, independent school teaching, coaching and prior knowledge of Second Baptist Church and School are considered a plus.
