The Hospital Admitting Specialist follows HIPAA, payer, and other regulations and documents all pertinent information as required in the various essential job functions. The Hospital Admitting Specialist is responsible for answering incoming calls and responding to a variety of patient requests and inquires including scheduling appointments for physicians and hospital related appointments and procedures. Covers both Hospital Admitting registration desk, ER admitting desk, and Urgent check in desk and complete in room registration and scheduling. Visits patient rooms to ensure all necessary registration documents have been signed. Creates accounts for new patients and update accounts for previous to ensure accurate services and account processing. Interprets physician orders and referrals to determine service needs and schedule patient visits while coordinating appointments with other departments to meet the needs of the patient and provider. Calculates patients' co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance and attempts to collect amounts from patients. Utilizes appropriate strategies to activate and/or verify the insurance coverage of patients and obtain benefit information such as co-payment, and co-insurance amounts. Maintains knowledge of and complies with third-party payers' requirements for verifying insurance information, obtaining authorizations/pre-certifications, and completing other activities to ensure services are billed and reimbursed appropriately. Reviews Medicare accounts for completed MSPQ. Completes bed placement for patients admitted into the hospital.
