+ The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background.

+ Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy and in a timely manner.

+ Job is complex and requires that employee have good organization skills and is able to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by client.

+ The SPT I must have to the ability learn and understand the compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis.

+ This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction. Additionally, since many changes do occur from day to day, great flexibility on the part of the SPT I is required.

+ The SPT I will be exposed to many different demands made by the customer. Majority of SPT I work on the nightshift but based on staffing needs, weekends, holidays, on call and overtime availability is a requirement.

+ Department is a production environment, with emphasis on productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times. Position requires data background with abilities to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour.

+ Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits. Able to sit or stand for long periods. Communicates effectively with all levels of staff. Adheres to core values, safety and compliance policies and procedures. Keeps work area neat and clean.

Requirements

+ HS diploma or equivalent.

+ Basic understanding of computers with a preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.

+ No experience required but previous laboratory experience preferred. Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory. Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required. Previous experience in a production environment preferred.

East Side Clinical Laboratory, a leader in the medical laboratory industry, is seeking a Reference test Clerk to join our Specimen Processing Referral Department.

This is a 40 hour position:

Monday - Friday 8:00m - 4:30pm

Duties / Responsibilities:
Prepare packing of kits or specimens to be mailed or shipped to various reference laboratories.Merge electronic results from reference laboratories into ESCL system.Address any issues that arise from releasing results to Manager.Manually enter results from reference laboratories we do not received results electronically.Check emails continuously throughout the day for any send-out issues from reference labs and address issues as needed.Answer daily phone calls from branches, reference labs, MD offices, and others, regarding any send-out test issues and questions.Daily WIP (work in progress) list and pending list from a specific client.Daily six day pending list of all reference laboratories for any outstanding send-out tests.Release and resolve outstanding pending tests and issues.Cancellation of any send-out tests when warranted.Troubleshoot daily tracking list of send-out samples.Handle preauthorization test pending list and communicate with billing department on daily basis.Contact providers to retrieve missing patient information or clinical history for Reference Laboratories.Resolve any issues with manifest and electronic orders for Reference Laboratories.Resolve all sample problems from Reference Laboratories.Assist with accessioning if needed.Retrieve additional samples if applicable and fill out appropriate paperwork to send to reference lab.Follow test cancellation procedures.Maintain and stock inventory of reference supplies.Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Minimum of two years' experience in laboratory training or specimen processing.General laboratory procedures and protocols.Excellent typing skills.Attention to detail.Excellent communication and organizational skills.High School Diploma/ GED required.Associate's Degree in related field preferred.

Physical Demands:
Extensive sitting, phone and computer use.Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers.Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch.May be required to lift, move and carry up to 15-20 pounds.Hearing acuity sufficient to effectively communicate with customers and employees via telephone and in person.Ability to communicate verbally on phone and in person.Fluency in the English language.
