In the early days of the Internet, he served as a senior software engineer on the team that developed the first commercial firewall (Digital Equipment Corporation) and was a coauthor on leading cybersecurity publications including Site Security Policy Handbook (RFC1244) and Site Security Handbook (RFC-2196).
