DEFINITION:
Under general direction, provide services including evaluation, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment planning, individual therapy, and family/patient education and training in order to enhance speech-language proficiency and communication effectiveness; perform related duties as required.
COMPENSATION:
The estimated pay for this position is $71.1760 per hour. This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are characterized by the responsibility to diagnosis speech/hearing disorders and provide therapy and education in treatment of the disorders
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform assessment management of dysphagia including bedside swallowing evaluation, modified barium swallow study; assign appropriate diet levels to avoid aspiration.
Conduct and document a thorough assessment of the patient to determine and diagnose communicative deficits and equipment needs.
Develop and implement an individualized treatment program based on the initial evaluation and containing achievable functional goals.
Instruct ancillary staff in appropriate procedures and provide supervision in accordance with applicable regulations.
Chart processes in a clear and concise manner using prescribed format.
Assess and revise treatment plans accordingly.
Orient patients to program services and treatment procedures appropriate to their needs. Inform patients of any potential risk during procedure.
Work with nursing staff, patient and families to maximize patient's use of functional abilities.
Instruct patients and family/other caregiver about therapeutic procedures to be continued by the patient at home following discharge.
Assist in the referral process when a patient requires additional services following discharge. Maintain current knowledge of community resources.
Attend and participate in rehabilitation team conferences regarding patient progress, problems or needs.
Attend and participate in other department/facility meetings, as required.
Access continuing education opportunities appropriate to discipline and responsibilities in order to maintain clinical currency.
Participate in and/or provide in-service education sessions.
Participate in the quality improvement process by responding appropriately to results of medical record audit, patient satisfaction surveys, safety activities and regulatory requirements.
Promote the programs and services of the organization through formal and informal interactions with the community.
Act in compliance with organization, regulatory and professional standards and guidelines.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Current licensure as a Speech Pathologist issued by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board;
Appointees not possessing the American Heart Association Responder or Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the RQI Responder certification within 30 days of employment. As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Responder certification and competency.

Writes progress reports.
Provides information and assistance to parents.
Schedules and provides individual and/or group therapy as determined by the IEP team.
Meets and confers with administrators and teachers about the methods and techniques for dealing with special problems and modifying education programs for speech/language/hearing problems.
Arranges necessary materials and equipment for speech therapy activities.
Assumes responsibility for implementation of Standard School District policies, State Department of Education regulations, and Federal regulations related to speech and language therapy services.
Pursues professional growth through conferences, workshops, and coursework.
Working Conditions:
Environment: Office environment; fast-paced work, constant interruptions.

Job Description
The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for providing speech and language services to meet the individual needs of students with oral communication and speech/language impairments. The position is responsible for screening and assessment, goal development, and planning/implementing appropriate speech and language treatment services to maximize student learning.

Qualifications
Experience working as a Speech Language Pathologist in a K-12 setting (1 year preferred)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Speech Language Pathology or Communicative Disorders
Valid Clinical Credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing in Language, Speech, and Hearing, OR a California License as a Speech Language Pathologist
Relates positively to children and instills in them a desire to improve.
Relates positively to parents, school personnel, and other professional people.
Demonstrates personality characteristics that enhance effectiveness in a school setting.
Communicate effectively and use appropriate professional language skills in writing and speaking.
Demonstrates a positive attitude and desire to improve professional knowledge and competence.
Technology skills that allow the clinician to write web-based IEPs
Skills, Knowledge:
Determines a student's needs based on assessment provided by the student's school or outside agencies.
Conducts formal and/or informal assessments necessary to develop an appropriate diagnostic-prescriptive program.
Conveys pertinent information to appropriate personnel, including referrals to community agencies.
Determines if students are eligible for services in the areas of articulation/phonology, abnormal voice, fluency, and language.
Provides written reports for parents and applicable personnel after assessment is completed.
Develops and implements an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Reviews IEPs at least annually.
Writes progress reports.
Provides information and assistance to parents.
Schedules and provides individual and/or group therapy as determined by the IEP team.
Meets and confers with administrators and teachers about the methods and techniques for dealing with special problems and modifying education programs for speech/language/hearing problems.
Arranges necessary materials and equipment for speech therapy activities.
Assumes responsibility for implementation of Standard School District policies, State Department of Education regulations, and Federal regulations related to speech and language therapy services.
Pursues professional growth through conferences, workshops, and coursework.
Working Conditions:
Environment: Office environment; fast-paced work, constant interruptions.
Physical requirements: Hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations and communicate over the telephone; seeing to read, prepare, and proofread documents and view computer monitors; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects; ability to go to sites apart from primary office to conduct business.
Pay Range: $80,898.00 - $125,354.71. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
