Job Summary and Qualifications
The Speech Therapist provides high-quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. As a member of the health care team, the Speech Therapist performs comprehensive patient assessments and establishes appropriate treatment goals. The Speech Therapist serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues.
As a Speech Language Pathologist, you provide identification, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, education and discharge planning for patients with feeding, swallowing, communication and/or cognitive disorders.
What you should expect to do in this role:
* Provides identification, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, education and discharge planning for patients with feeding, swallowing, communication and/or cognitive disorders
* Evaluates the patient's swallow, feeding, communication and/or cognitive status in the environment best for the patient and utilizing appropriate evaluation materials and procedures
* Develops and implements a written treatment plan based on the interpretation of the evaluation
* Communicates verbally and/or in written form with the patient, family, physicians and other health care staff regarding the outcome of the patient's tests and the plan for follow-up
* Documents all patient-related activities in a manner that is thorough, clear, timely and allows for easy retrieval of the information, consistent with medical center policies and procedures
* Completes discharge planning and a written discharge summary
* Provides formal and informal educational sessions to family, patients, physicians, healthcare staff, students and any other group requesting information within the scope of practice
* Supervises Speech Language Pathology students during their clinical affiliations
What qualification you will need for this role:
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course, as specified in policy
* Current Speech Language Pathology licensure in the state of Kansas
* Certificate of Clinical Competence through ASHA in Speech Language Pathology
* New graduates require Certificate of Clinical Competence through ASHA within 18 months of employment
* Master of Arts or Science in Speech Language Pathology

Summary:
Provide Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Therapy and related services for patients while maintaining positive levels of interaction with facilities and clients in accordance with the principles and practices of Speech-Language Pathology therapy and within Reliant Rehabilitation guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Optimize communication, cognitive-linguistic abilities, and swallowing skills of patients by providing, directing, and/or overseeing speech therapy
Build a strong Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) therapy program
Enhance clinical expertise, professional and management skills through interaction with managers, therapists and other professional staff, self-study, and other continuing education activities.
Maintain valid state license. Maintain awareness of issues related to the profession of speech-language pathology therapy and the health care environment.
Understands various relevant payment models related to billing and treatment guidelines, as well as clinically appropriate means/modes of delivery. Provide quality care as well as reasonable goals and outcomes within the guidelines.
Be compliant with infection control procedures and environmental safety protocol within a facility
Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend in English: instructions, correspondence, charts, memos, and reports

Qualifications
Must possess a valid state driver's license. Must possess automobile liability insurance. Must wear seat belts at all times while driving. Dependable transportation kept in good working condition. Must be able to drive an automobile in all types of weather conditions. Currently licensed as an SLP in the State of Employment.

Requirements
Educational, Training, and Licensure Requirements
Masters or higher degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited college or university.
Current Kansas Speech Language Pathology License in good standing.
Current Certificate of Clinical Competency from ASHA.
Meet continuing education units required to maintain Kansas license and ASHA certificate of clinical competency by attending pediatric seminars, conference, or workshops to maintain industry best practices and remain current and updated on literature and technology related to the field of speech language pathology.
CPR Certification maintained and in good standing.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification maintained and in good standing.
