The Speech-Language Pathologist consults with the Interdisciplinary Teams (IDT) to provide the best plan of coordinated speech/swallowing services for the participants. Full or part time - weekdays only. Methuen, MA area.
Essential Responsibilities:
Conducts initial Speech therapy evaluations and screens, develops individual treatment plans, implements appropriate interventions, and treats as appropriate.
Coordinates speech/swallowing services as they relate to direct patient care.
Records required documentation timely and per Organizational policy.
Prepares for and participates in pre-enrollment, care planning, debriefing, staff meetings and discharge planning. Attends family meetings as necessary.
Performs cognitive, linguistic, and swallowing evaluations as referred by the medical team.
Conducts education and training for the participant, family, and caregivers regarding speech therapy treatment.
Assists with the development of policies, procedures and applicable workflows.
Frequently contributes to the development and implementation of new ideas and methods.
Exercises significant independent judgment to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives.
Ability to pass a fit test. Position requires mask where seal is critical. Incumbent is required to not have facial hair that interferes with a tight seal of the respirator.
Frequent local travel.

Master's degree in SLP from an accredited college or university
Current Massachusetts SLP license

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Conducts diagnostic evaluations of various communication disorders in both children and adults. This may include, but is not limited to, language disorders, articulation deficits, auditory and auditory-perceptual deficits, voice disorders, stuttering and neurological disorders such as congential, developmental, or acquired. 2. Provides remedial treatment in both individual and group settings for children and adults with the above communication and swallowing disorders, utilizing clinical techniques appropriate to each type of disorder. Uses complex decision making to analyze each patient's problems and develop treatment interventions to maximize function in daily living activities.
3. Recommends, designs, and/or implements augmentative methods of communication such as communication boards and mechanical devices when oral and/or aural communication is not possible. This is done in conjunction with the patient, family and/or others.
4. Provides information about the communication disorders to patients, families and others.
5. Designs and establishes home programs and other activities which may be used for carryover or reinforcement of the therapy program.
6. Maintains records and reports necessary to the conduct of treatment. This may include, but is not limited to diagnostic evaluation reports, daily treatment notes, monthly physician renewals as appropriate, progress reports as appropriate or requested and losing summaries of treatment.
7. Confers with other individuals and/or agencies involved with the patient's program. This may include physicians and other related professions, school personnel, social service agencies and the like.

The speech-language pathologist is responsible for providing clinical supervision to speech-language assistants, evaluating students with suspected communication disabilities, and providing speech-language services to students with Individual Education Programs in the schools.
Deals with treatment or applications of remedies for the cure, alleviation, or prevention of speech disorders.
Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program to promote students' receptive and expressive language skills for school success.
Provides an individualized education program to meet individual needs of speech-language disabled students using evidence based multi-sensory approaches.
Uses evidence based practices to consult with teachers about students who demonstrate communication disabilities.
Keeps thorough and on-going records, using qualitative and quantitative data, for individual students receiving speech-language services.
Organizes speech program in assigned schools.
Plans the therapy schedule including pupils in groups or individual, depending upon their classification and severity.
Provides evaluations for Team Evaluations.
Notifies parents of findings and progress via semi-annual reports.
Attends TEAM meetings when requested.
Keeps accurate individual records.
Completes individualized education plans when requested.
Responsible for other instructional and general duties as indicated by the Principal, the Director of Special Education and the Superintendent of Schools, or his/her designees and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.

Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech and Hearing Association or Clinical Fellowship Year candidate.

About the Opportunity
The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders invites applications from highly motivated candidates for a part-time, non-benefits eligible SLP Clinical Supervisor in the SPEAK OUT! Therapy Program with the on-campus Speech-Language and Hearing Center (SLHC).
The SLP Clinical Supervisor possesses depth and breadth of knowledge of those areas of screening, diagnostic, and re/habilitative services, education, counseling, and referrals covered in the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) Scope of Practice. The SLP Clinical Supervisor provides services which comply with the policies & procedures of the SLHC, ensures compliance with mandates of regulatory agencies (including maintenance of the environment of care, infection control, HIPAA, documentation, and annual training), maintains current licensure, completes all required clinical and operational documentation/forms, and participates in any programs or initiatives required by the Clinic Director or regulatory agencies (e.g. performance improvement activities). The primary focus of the Clinical Supervisor is to provide clinical supervision and training to graduate student clinicians for ~7 hours/week in the SPEAK OUT! Therapy Program.
Responsibilities:
As a supervisor you will be responsible for the patients your students will work with throughout the course of each semester. You will model, observe, and teach graduate student clinicians in their 3rd and/or 4th clinical experience to work with patients with Parkinson's disease in the SPEAK OUT! Therapy Program. You will debrief with students to provide constructive feedback to improve their clinical skills and instill confidence as they progress through the practicum. You will edit Treatment Plans, Progress Notes, Evaluation and Discharge Reports and more to teach students clinical writing and critical thinking skills. You will supervise data collection for an ongoing research study.
Qualifications:
Minimum completion of a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
ASHA CCC-SLP
Completed a minimum of 2 continuing education credits in the area of supervision as mandated by ASHA
Massachusetts license to practice Speech-Language Pathology by the appointment start date
Minimum of 4-6 years of clinical experience
Clinical experience with adult populations
Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience and student mentorship
The ability to work well with and supervise students at varied levels of proficiency and skill
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
A focus on patient-centered practice and cultural competency
Proficiency with computer technology (e.g., Office365 suite utilizing Word, Excel, One Drive, and email)
Excellent organizational skills; can work independently, but seeks out guidance when needed
The ability to work well with multiple levels of staff, students, and patients at varied levels of proficiency
Relative flexibility with their schedule

Job Description/Requirements:
Working in collaboration with our therapists, special education teachers, and instructional aides, the Speech/Language Pathologist is responsible for delivering comprehensive speech and language services, including assessments, to students with a broad range of disabilities.
Applicant must be positive, energetic, flexible, and a team player who can complement Lighthouse's remarkable culture and strong Allied Services team.
Having patience, solid communication skills and a good sense of humor are also highly recommended to be successful in this role.
Candidates with a Master's degree, MA DESE licensure, and at least 1 year of relevant experience are preferred, although new graduates ready for their CFY are also encouraged to apply.
This is a full-time, 10-month (school year) position. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:25am - 5:00pm.
