Under the supervision of the Special Education Director and Regional Director, the Speech Language Pathologist provides speech, language, and hearing services that meet the educational needs of each student in the SLP's area of responsibility.
Serves as a Speech Language Pathologist to students from Preschool through High School Transitions. Evaluates needs of children within the educational system or school. Applies scientific principles in assessment of communication, language, speech, and hearing. Conducts case management and supervision of assignments. Ability to understand and implement School and District-wide practices to promote learning

1. Administers diagnostic tests of articulation, language (including semantics, syntax, grammar, morphology and phonology), cognitive language, auditory perception, voice and stuttering.

3. Carries out treatment of communicative disorders using current principles, theories and practices, assists in the preparation of audio-visual aids for use with patients.
4. Counsels patients and relatives regarding problems resulting from communicative disorder; instructs patients and relatives in the principles of home treatment; assists in the supervision and training of student speech therapists, assists in acquainting other personnel with the principles and practices of speech therapy.
5. Employs the use of standard clinical equipment such as tape recorders, language master, portable audiometer, audio-visual equipment.
6. Keeps records of work performed and prepares reports on the patient's treatment and progress; attends inter-disciplinary staff conference to discuss the problems and progress of various patients.
7. Participates in ward rounds and in inter-disciplinary staff meetings for planning total patient care; serves as consultant in speech pathology and audiology to other disciplines.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** :
Education: possession of a Master's Degree or equivalent in Speech Pathology from a school approved by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Current licensure with the California Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Board. Possession of Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association. Speech Language Pathologists must have both a state license and their certificate of clinical competence from ASHA.

West Contra Costa Unified School District Primary Function: Under the direction of the SELPA Director or designee, the Speech and Language teacher provides on-going remedial services to pupils with communicative disorders, including language, speech, and hearing handicaps. Provides consultive services to classroom teachers and other school personnel regarding language disordered children. Directly Responsible to: SELPA Director Major Responsibilities:
* Diagnoses language, speech, and hearing problems of referred students.
* Conducts Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings at least annually for all enrolled students.
* Develops materials and plans and conducts remediation for language, speech, and hearing handicapped students who are enrolled.
* Maintains records and reports for all students in the program.
* Serves as a team member in diagnostic assessment, evaluation, and placement of children with communicative disorders.
* Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, psychologists, and other personnel regarding students with language, speech, and hearing problems.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* Participates in departmental staff meetings, both business and in-service.
* Keeps state attendance register as required.
* Completes End of the Year status list to summarize year's actions.
* Keeps informed of recent research for personal professional growth, and participates in professional organizations.
Qualifications:
* Certificated by the State of California or under waiver for certification in Speech, Language and Hearing.
* Possession of a University degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent.
* Familiarity with assessment procedures and tools in the field of Speech Pathology.
* Familiarity with therapy techniques and materials in the field of Speech Pathology.
* Knowledge of the California Education Code.
* Knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other applicable federal laws.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents and community.
* Ability to speak and write effectively in English.

What will you do?
Establish speech and language treatment goals through dynamic and standardized assessment tools.
Consult closely with multi-disciplinary team members to create collaborative treatment plans and integrative strategies.
Provide individual therapy sessions as well as group and/or co-treats with other disciplines as therapeutically appropriate.
Maintain patient records, documentation, and appropriate billing in accordance with federal and state regulations and company policy to ensure excellent standard of care.
Provide play based and goal-based interventions to develop receptive and expressive language skills while consider an individual's sensory processing, regulation, and motor differences.
Facilitate functional and stimulating experiences to target and achieve individualized goals.
Devise strategies and supports to help the individual engage in communication experiences across settings.
Collaborate with the individual and family to understand their values, interests, and goals.
Implement programming that considers all aspects of the child, inclusive of, but not limited to: sensorimotor, cognitive, communicative, recreational, and social activities.
Contribute to program development.
Educate patients, families, team members, and caregivers on home programs that complement treatment.
You should expect to deliver at least 22.75 hours of direct patient care each week, excluding time for training, documentation, and administrative meetings.
