• Selects, fits, and establishes effective use of appropriate prostheticdaptive devices for communication and swallowing (e.g. electrolarynges, speaking valves.).
• Uses instrumental technology to diagnose and treat disorders of communication and swallowing (e.g. Videofluoroscopy for speech and swallowing, Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing, Videostroboscopy, Videnonasophagyngoscopy, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, computer technology).
• Services patients and their families/caregivers with hearing loss (e.g., auditory training for patients with cochlear implants and hearing aids; speech and language intervention secondary to hearing loss).
• Provides assessment and intervention for patients diagnosed with auditory processing disorders.
• Screens patients for hearing loss or middle ear pathology using conventional pure-tone air conduction methods.
• Modifies and/or enhances communication performance (e.g., accent modification, care and improvement of the professional voice).Additional Duties

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution. State License issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health, or Provisional Rhode Island State License for Clinical Fellows involved in supervised clinical fellowship year. Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).For clinical fellows, evidence of pursuit of ASHA certification.
EXPERIENCE:One to two years' experience or eligibility for provisional license from the State of Rhode Island. Clinical Fellows will be considered.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Fit for duty in accordance with OSHA standards and program specific needs

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: No direct supervision. Key Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of a speechlanguagepathologist is to screen, evaluate and provide appropriate services to students with communications; disorders(articulation, voice, language, and fluency) and help each student reach his/her maximum potential to understand and use speech in a meaningful way.
Administer speech and language screening procedures; evaluating, as requested, the speech and language of each referred student with suspected communication disorders; reporting and interpreting findings to the team of qualified professionals;
Utilize a variety of measures, both formal and informal, that are appropriate for evaluating the various communication disorders; writing evaluations which are clear and objective;
Develop clear, behaviorally stated goals and objectives for each student recommended for speech and language remediation based on evaluative data;
Implement the Individual Educational plan for each student served, and periodically evaluating the effectiveness of that plan; developing and maintaining a regularly scheduled speech and language program;
Participate as a member of the Team of Qualified Professionals and the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team contributing evaluation findings, collaborating on the development of the IEP, diagnosing students' eligibility consistent with District, federal and state policies, procedures and regulations;
Participate in timely computer logging services for Medicaid billing, use the web-based IEP system, and participate in the time studies for administrative Medicaid claiming as scheduled;
Adhere to requirement and state and federal laws regarding students with disabilities;
Maintain web based portfolio for students assigned to case-load as appropriate;
Proficient in language of instruction;
Implement reasonable appropriate time allocation for observation, testing, case management and paperwork associated with providing necessary services and support to students;

The SpeechPathologist is expected to provide a full range of speech services. He/she will devote his/her efforts toward improving the educational experience of those students with emotional, behavioral and learning disabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.In the Fall of each year, the SpeechPathologist shall screen all Kindergarten children together with those first graders who did not attend Kindergarten. The SpeechPathologist shall also screen students referred to him/her by the principal of the elementary schools.
2.He/she shall make the final decision as to who shall be accepted into the speech classes.
3.He/shall handle all “C” type cases. He/she shall help and guide the classroom teacher in the handling of “b” type cases.
4.He/she submit to the Director of Pupil Personnel a schedule for approval of classes no later than one (1) month after the opening of school.
5.He/she shall notify the parents of all children needing help on approved forms and shall obtain the consent of the parent before the child is admitted to the classes.
6.He/she shall be a member of the School Health Council and shall attend meeting of the Council.
7.He/she shall arrange a definite schedule of parent-teacher meetings and notify parents so as to bring about a working relationship between parents and therapists.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
•Bachelor's Degree from an institution approved by the State Board of Regents.
•5 year's experience preferred.
•Must possess a valid Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) certification as a SpeechPathologist.
•Must possess a high degree of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
•Must be detailed oriented with good organizational skills.
•Must be proficient with computers.
