1. Administers diagnostic tests of articulation, language (including semantics, syntax, grammar, morphology and phonology), cognitive language, auditory perception, voice and stuttering.
2. Assists in evaluating the patient's communicative abilities by examining the peripheral speech related mechanisms for impairment of vital capacity and tidal air, respiratory control and coordination, laryngeal valving and phonatory function, pharyngeal and palatal activity, articulatory movement of the lips, tongue, jaws and palate; conducts audiological screenings.
3. Carries out treatment of communicative disorders using current principles, theories and practices, assists in the preparation of audio-visual aids for use with patients.
4. Counsels patients and relatives regarding problems resulting from communicative disorder; instructs patients and relatives in the principles of home treatment; assists in the supervision and training of student speech therapists, assists in acquainting other personnel with the principles and practices of speech therapy.
5. Employs the use of standard clinical equipment such as tape recorders, language master, portable audiometer, audio-visual equipment.
6. Keeps records of work performed and prepares reports on the patient's treatment and progress; attends inter-disciplinary staff conference to discuss the problems and progress of various patients.
7. Participates in ward rounds and in inter-disciplinary staff meetings for planning total patient care; serves as consultant in speech pathology and audiology to other disciplines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: possession of a Master's Degree or equivalent in Speech Pathology from a school approved by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Current licensure with the CaliforniaSpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiology Board. Possession of Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association. SpeechLanguagePathologists must have both a state license and their certificate of clinical competence from ASHA.
Pay Range: $68.35 - $85.38 / Hour
The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization. Responsibilities:
As a Staff Speech-LanguagePathologist at CNS, you will play a pivotal role in transforming lives. Your key responsibilities will include:
Patient Evaluations: Conduct initial evaluations to identify communication and cognitive issues, including types of conditions such as cognition, dysarthria, apraxia, language, dysfluency, dysphagia, etc., the causal and/or maintaining factors, and the severity of the disorders.
Reporting and Communication: Maintain accurate records and reports. Consult with patients, insurance representatives, families, and therapists from various clinic disciplines to provide guidance and information. Communicate with outside ancillary services as needed.
Program Management: Stay informed about all patient programs within the department. Instruct and supervise clinic aides and students, ensuring they complete daily treatment plans. Be available to provide advice or treatment at all times.
Therapeutic Interventions: Implement a variety of therapeutic interventions tailored to each patient's needs. These include Cognition Module, Attention Module, Auditory Rehabilitation Module, Echoic Store, Iconic Store, orientation, passive breathing, thermal stimulation, etc. and other specialized therapies to enhance patient outcomes.
Collaboration and Teamwork: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to patient care. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of innovative individualized treatment strategies.

Qualifications:
Educational Background: A Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders is required.
Licensing: You must hold a current Speech Pathology License in California or be license eligible.
Preferred Experience: Experience in acute or post-acute rehabilitation is preferred.

On physician's referral, evaluates patients, develops specific treatment plans and goals, administers procedures and modalities specific to the learning needs and age of the patient, and plans for discharge utilizing appropriate Speech-Language Pathology techniques.
Acts as a case manager for assigned patients.
Prepares and maintains accurate and current patient records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Re-evaluates and revises patient's treatment plan on a regular basis, with approval of physician as necessary.
Provides patient, family/caregivers with age appropriate instruction regarding therapy procedures and home program, and provides additional instruction as indicated.
Instructs the patient and family/caregiver in care and use of assistive and adaptive equipment.
Communicates with rehabilitation team members, family, physicians and third party payers regarding patient progress and program changes as appropriate.
Attends and/or participates inter/intradepartmental in-services and meetings as required and appropriate.
Participates in short and long-term program development, including participation on committees as requested.
Participates in student intern and/or volunteer program as appropriate.
Provides supervision to CFY as appropriate.
Maintains clean, safe and orderly treatment areas and equipment. Reports to supervisor any problems or suggestions regarding safety in the workplace.
Assists with orientation and supervision of other health care professionals as appropriate.
Establishes and maintains effective communication with physicians, co-workers, patients and other hospital personnel.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops within assigned specialty areas.
