REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION LEVEL:
Masters in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Program. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) or eligible to enter Clinician Fellowship Year (CFY). Eligible for a South Dakota Speech-Language Pathology license.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
Successful internship if entering Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY). Experience with Augmentative Communication System and/or Assistive Technology desired.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management. Demonstrated competency in word processing, spread sheets, and data bases.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
Provides speech and language therapy services on a district-wide basis as dictated by student needs.
Participates in identification, assessment, and IEP development for eligible students.
Prepares plans that correlate with specific instructional and IEP goals. When applicable, supports the integration of assistive technology or other augmentative communication systems to support communication.
Maintains student records regarding the referral, evaluation, and placement process in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
Complies with policies, operating procedures, requirements, and special education law.
Evaluates, selects, and modifies resources and speech therapy activities to support instructional activities and individual student needs.
Organizes materials used in therapy and maintains an inventory of materials and assessments.
Uses techniques to check understanding and progress of students at regular intervals.
Provides opportunities for students to assume responsibility and develop independence.
Respects and shows sensitivity to individual needs and concerns.
Recognizes individual and cultural diversity of all students.
Communicates effectively and professionally with parents and students.
Participates in parent conferences and communicates with parents on a routine basis.

Therapeutic Services
Deliver individualized and small-group speech and language therapy to students with IEPs across K-8.
Address a broad range of communication areas including:
Receptive and expressive language
Articulation and phonological processing
Fluency and voice
Social-pragmatic language and conversational skills
Design and implement Social Club programming for Autistic students using Social Thinking methodologies.
Assessment and Documentation
Conduct initial and ongoing evaluations, screenings, and assessments to identify communication disorders.
Develop, write, and update IEP goals and present levels of performance in collaboration with the IEP team.
Maintain clear, accurate, and confidential records including session notes, progress reports, and compliance documentation.
Ensure therapy and documentation adhere to IDEA regulations and school policies.
Collaboration and Consultation
Provide support to general education and special education staff with classroom strategies and interventions for at-risk or struggling students.
Participate actively in student support meetings, IEP meetings, and family consultations.
