Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Physical Medicine and according to standards of treatment, performs objective assessments as well as comprehensive individualized treatment programs for patients of all ages according to departmental policies and procedures regarding referral.

Qualifications:

Education: Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.
Licensure: Current Oklahoma licensure or eligible for Oklahoma licensure.
Experience: One year experience.
Certifications : Certification from American Speech and Hearing Association. BLS certified.
Preferred Experience: Experience in caring for patients of all ages preferred.

Evaluates and treats patients referred by a licensed physician in accordance with the Practice Act for the State of Georgia. Applies a wide variety of therapeutic techniques for rehabilitation of speech-language, oral motor, and hearing disorders. Performs specialized evaluations for dysphagia. Complies with hospital policies and supports the mission and values of the hospital.
**Position Requirements** :

**Licensure/Certification/Registration** : The Speech Language Pathologist must be duly licensed by the Georgia State Board. The therapist must hold a Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

**Education:** The speech-language pathologist must hold a Master's degree from an American Speech-Language Hearing Association accredited program and licensed to practice by the Georgia State Board. The therapist must also hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence.

**Experience:** Speech Language Pathologists should have as a minimum, broad experience in a variety of different clinical settings through their ASHA accredited clinical internship programs.

**Special Qualifications:** The speech-language pathologist is required to have a comprehensive knowledge of Speech Therapy practices, procedures, and clinical skills. Should also be knowledgeable of required documentation and billing that satisfies the Georgia State practice act, JCAHO requirements, and meets the requirements of Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurers.

Must be able to plan, organize and coordinate Speech Therapy treatments with other therapy providers, most notably Occupational Therapists (OTR's), and Physical Therapists (PT's). Must be able to work collaboratively with all other members of the St. Mary's Health Care System, including nurses, physicians, and hospital personnel. Must be able to deal constructively with conflict; collect, analyze and interpret data from a variety of sources and take appropriate action. Must be able to relate to physician referral sources and demonstrate excellent customer service. Must be willing and able to participate in clinical quality measurement and performance improvement programs as requested, and be in compliance with all of St. Mary's Health Care System policies and procedures.

**Physical Requirements:** This position requires keen hearing and visual acuity in order to properly assess patients. The Speech Therapist must be able to speak clearly to provide a good model for patients. Some close eye work required (computers, typing, reading, writing). Prolonged and considerable amounts of standing and walking. The Therapist must be able to turn, lift, push, pull, and transfer patients. The therapist must also be able to lift, push, and pull equipment of up to fifty (50) pounds. There is a risk of radiation exposure during modified barium swallow evaluations.

**Personal Protective Equipment:**

This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks/activities. Universal precautions should be followed. Personal protective equipment includes, but is not limited to: back support belts, gloves, masks, and safety glasses.

Responsibilities:
This position provides and directs speech therapy services to patients including assessment and treatment with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders.
Essential job responsibilities include:
Administers hearing or speech/language evaluations, tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written and oral tests and special instruments.

Coordinates treatment plan with resident, family, and other team members.

Records information on the initial evaluation, treatment, progress, and discharge of clients.

Monitors patient's response to intervention and modifies treatment as indicated to attain goals in accordance with physician orders.

Instructs clients in techniques for more effective communication, including sign language, lip reading, and voice improvement.

Practices within state licensure requirements and scope of practice.

Follows guidelines/requirements set by CMS, federal and state regulations and meeting requirements set by other payors (insurance companies).

Manages and maintains individual license/certification renewals and when applicable other professional certifications.

Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology Previous experience in the rehabilitation/therapy field Current license, state certification, or registered as a Speech Therapist in good standing Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations including able to work irregular hours, attend meetings and special events. Ability to follow all safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the facility including but not limited to: Vulnerable Adult and Abuse Policy, HIPAA, Resident’s Bill of Rights, Universal Precaution, AWAIR, OSHA, Right to know, SDS, ADA, HUD Policy and Procedures, Fair Housing laws and regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctor of Speech Language Pathology (SLPD) degree Previous experience in home health, hospice or senior care.
