Splices and tests fiber optic cabling in buried, aerial, and building applications Takes pride in analyzing and troubleshooting technical problems and/or issues Reviews, interprets, and works with various maps, drawings, and blueprints and testing documents Makes splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, aerial, and building work locations Adheres to field inspection quality control standards & documents in buried, aerial, and building applications

Requirements:
1-2 years of experience as a Fiber optic Splicer/TesterFamiliarity with safety procedures when working aloft and in confined spaces Ability to climb poles with hooks and belt is an asset Knowledge of safe work practices involving confined space entry is an asset Strong interpersonal and listening skills Strong knowledge of MS OfficeAbility to read and understand customer provided drawings along with daily completion of redline drawings, time, and production logs Must have and maintain a valid provincial driver's license Must have and maintain a clean driver's abstract

Working Conditions:
Travel to various sites across Ontario is required
Able to meet the physical requirements of the position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting (up to 75 pounds), working at heights, in confined spaces and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.)

Specialties include OSP/ISP engineering, design, permitting, right-of-way and CAD for traditional and wireless telecommunications companies.

Overview:

Fiber Splicer Technician will be a customer oriented individual, whose duties would include fiber splicing, installation and repair of customer premises equipment, diagnosing and repairing troubles in outside network, including telephone, IPTV and Fiber to the Premises.

Responsibilities:

+ Diagnose and repair troubles at customer premises

+ Diagnose and repair troubles in outside network

+ Perform line work and groundwork as necessary

+ Place and maintain cable in underground conduit systems

+ Install and remove aerial cable

+ Install and maintain pedestals, poles, carrier sites, and equipment at subscriber locations

+ Splice, terminate and maintain cables, including fiber optic cable

+ Identify counts and prepare groups of pairs for splicing

+ Install and maintain Fiber to the Premises (FTTP)

+ Check and record proper readings; use test sets and interpret readings, localize trouble and determine necessary repairs

+ Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

+ 1+ years of experience in a telecommunications plant environment

+ CDL required

+ Proficiency in English

+ Advanced troubleshooting and multi-tasking skills

+ Customer service oriented

+ Use mechanical and electrical power tools.

+ Handle heavy physical workload, including climbing, lifting and stooping. Must be able to lift and carry at least 80 pounds and climb ladder with tools/equipment.

+ Shovel out offices.

+ Pay close attention to detail, instructions, and schedules.

+ Responds to subscribers and community to ensure positive public relations and to retain customer identification with the company.

+ Willingness to learn

+ Willingness to participate in rotational "on-call" schedule to cover non-working hours
