Job Summary:
The Tool Shop Supervisor is responsible for supervising and participating in the day-to-day operations of the die shop. This is a working supervisor with hands-on work with CNC machines, EDM, and conventional machining equipment. The role requires a strong technical background in tooling and machining, along with leadership skills to guide a team of skilled tradespeople. This is a hands-on supervisory role ideal for someone who leads by example.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Team Leadership
Lead a team of die makers, CNC machinists, and EDM operators.
Assign daily tasks and managing work priorities to meet production needs.
Train and mentor team members on safe and efficient machining practices.
Monitor work quality and ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards.
Provide hands-on support and guidance in complex or urgent repair situations.
Coordination & Communication
Collaborate with production, engineering, process, and quality departments to ensure tooling readiness.
Communicate status of tooling jobs, die repairs, and preventive maintenance.
Coordinate die cleaning and preparation schedules to align with production requirements.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and part usage.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
Ensure all team members follow safety procedures and proper machine operation protocols.
Promote a clean and organized shop through 5S and lean practices.
Identify and implement improvements in tooling processes, equipment, or workflow.
Hands-On Technical Work
Perform setup, machining, and repair of tooling using CNC, EDM, milling, grinding, and manual machines.
Troubleshoot and repair dies to ensure proper function and minimal downtime.
Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble dies and tooling as needed.
Modify and improve tooling based on production feedback or engineering changes.
Participate in die tuning and support the validation of tooling for production use.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or degree preferred.
Minimum 5+ years of experience in tool & die, with strong skills in CNC and EDM operations.
A minimum of 3 years of leadership, team lead, or supervisory experience (formal or informal).
Proficient in reading blueprints, CAD drawings, and precision measuring instruments.
Skilled in machining tight tolerances and working with tool steels and die components.
Basic computer skills for reporting, documentation, and inventory tracking.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in job shop manufacturing.
Familiarity with CAD/CAM (Camworks) and ERP(IQMS).
Working Conditions:
Active machine shop environment with exposure to noise, machinery, coolants, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
Requires standing for long periods and using hand tools, hoists, and measuring equipment.
Occasional off-shift work or weekend coverage may be required during tooling emergencies or major maintenance periods.

Work Environment: The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Summary:
Supervises and coordinates activities of workers concerned with ordering, receiving, storing, inventorying, issuing, and shipping materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and parts, in stockroom, warehouse, or yard by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews inbound appointment log and open order report each day in order to plan work activities.
Plans inbound and out bound schedules accordingly to meet customer metrics.
Determines staffing needs based on work load and schedules staff accordingly.
Assigns workers to specific duties based on work load and shipping schedules.
Reviews and updates operational procedures as necessary and ensures they are communicated to and understood by the warehouse associates.
Tracks productivity and qualifies performance by individual, function, and department.
Works with Inventory Control to ensure the highest level of inventory accuracy possible.
Manages payroll of department.
Advises employees on handling of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping stock; and related problems.
Traces history of items to determine reasons for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and recommends remedial actions to resolve discrepancies.
Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
Issues written and oral instructions.
Ensures that proper safety procedures are followed.
Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
Position is full-time and on-site.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises 20+ employees in the area of Operations. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Major Role Description
Consistent with the mission, vision and values of Lifeline of Ohio, maximize organ donation through exceptional donor management, allocation and organ recovery by forming strong, effective partnerships with donor hospitals and clinical teams. Ensure that no opportunity for donation is lost through a can-do attitude, asking the right questions and pursuing all possible avenues for donation. Collaborate with other department leaders to coordinate the collective achievement of organ recovery goals.
1. Provides oversite and guidance of day-to-day clinical department operations related to clinical management, allocation, recovery and overall coordination of donor related activities. Maintains an awareness of all active cases and pending activity to ensure optimal use of available resources.
2. Works with Administrators on Call (AOCs) and Triage Coordinators to direct team member resources during donor case activity. Problem solves with on-site organ team members and provides clinical and logistical expertise in all areas of the process to ensures compliance with regulatory standards / requirements as well as organizational policies and procedures.
3. In collaboration with the Manager of Organ & Surgical Services and hospital partners, develop processes, policies, and procedures that comply with hospital protocols and all applicable regulations.
Coordinate open discussions about policies and procedures with team members and stakeholders to get the feedback needed that permits development of comprehensive, effective processes.
Be aware of the business environment and work culture of each hospital partner. Adapt communications and protocols to accommodate their unique requirements.
Initiate and/or participate in internal and external clinical audits as required.
4. Recommend and coordinate process improvement initiatives in partnership with Clinical Quality Improvement (CQI) team to address gaps in referral response performance.
Conduct root cause analyses on reportable events and initiate changes to address gaps in policies, protocols, and processes.
Analyze data f rom the business intelligence system (Tableau), hospital partners, and other sources to identify trends in organ recovery measures and results.
Recognize and celebrate positive outcomes with team members and stakeholders.
5. Build, lead, and maintain a high-performing, highly-engaged team that embodies the organization's values.
Hire new team members in partnership with the Manager of Organ & Surgical Services and HR. Screen and interview candidates, ensuring they have the right character, cultural fit, and competencies to perform well in the role.
Coordinate the onboarding of new hires alongside the Clinical Education and Development Specialist; ensure they receive all appropriate learning and sign-off on all department-specific policies. Evaluate their progress and provide feedback as needed.
Set clear performance expectations and assesses employee performance through the organization's performance management framework. Provide team members with positive, constructive feedback that reinforces desired results and holds team members accountable for their work.
Audit and approve appropriate time and attendance procedures
Identify training and development that will improve team member performance and provide growth for future career opportunities.

7. Work with materials management specialist to ensure accurate and efficient inventory and supply ordering.

9. Participates in activities, provides onsite mentorship, training, and education. Able to perform all the duties and responsibilities of all roles within the Organ Recovery Services on an as needed basis.

Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in a standard office setting working at a desk or table on a level surface with on-call responsibilities. Travel to hospitals is expected within donation service area with occasional out of state meetings . May be required to work more hours than normal during a regular workweek depending on donor activity and other requirements. Flexible work hours may be required to accommodate donor activity.
This position is classified as a high exposure (clinical) occupation and does require Bloodborne Pathogens Training and Protection. The employee has been provided with protective clothing and personal training, and has been offered the HBV vaccine.
