Nancy Finley

Sports Team Manager

I was a little of everything for a Major League Baseball team except a player on the field.

I helped manage our Front Office with my father, Carl A. Finley. I was made a V.P. at age 16. Dad decided against that title since he worried it would bring publicity. We had many kidnap threats In the Bay Area at that time - 1970's into early 1980's.

I have a quote on the back cover of a book with a similar topic. It's about working in Baseball.

I see colleges offering these courses now. I feel I could teach the basics with my eyes closed.

I was raised in a MLB organization. First the Kansas City Athletics, 1960-1967, then the Oakland A's, 1968-1984. We won 3 consecutive World Series in 1972, 73 & 74.

When Free Agency arrived in 1976, I observed my father rebuild the Franchise using unknown players. This was in the mid to late 1970's. Our rebuilt roster made it to the 1981 Playoff.
Sadly, we sold the team by late 1980.

My father was asked to remain with the team to guide the new staff. Dad retired full time in 1984.
