Spot Welder - 2nd Shift

Full-time Spot Welder needed for second shift. Previous spot welding experience a plus.

Essential Functions:

* Must be able to measure clearances and set equipment to required tolerances to produce good parts.
* Must be able to understand blueprints and other instructions.
* Must be able to lift parts of varying weights onto work areas for the necessary weld operation.
* Must check parts to ensure accuracy of weld prior to completion of order.
* Must count and stack parts correctly prior to moving them to the next operation.
* Must constantly be alert to potential safety hazards.
* Must be able to work well with minimal supervision.

This is a full time position

Eaton's Electrical Sector is currently seeking a Spot Welder - Trim Fabrication Production Associate for B Shift to join our team. This position is based at our Sumter, SC facility. The compensation for this role starts at $15.90/hr based on knowledge, experience, education, or specialized training. There is a $.60 shift premium. The hours are Monday - Thursday, 2:30pm - 12:30am.

The Spot Welder will provide expertise and support in all areas of the Trim fabrication process, including, but not limited to operating a spot-welding machine to manufacture trim assemblies safely and in a timely manner while adhering to Eaton's high-quality standards.

In this function you will:

* Exhibit a strong adherence to quality by continually seeking methods of improvement for all functions of the position. Ensure that all products and parts adequately meet Eaton's quality guidelines as they move throughout the production process. Perform quality checks as instructed.
* Receive, support, and carry out work assignments from management and internal customers to fulfill production requirements in a timely manner. Perform assigned functions from oral/written instructions. Closely follow established procedures for completing assigned functions.
* Comply with all safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment and operation of equipment in a safe and competent manner. Understand and meet all departmental safety objectives and goals. Keep assigned work area clean, organized, and orderly per 5S standards.
* Ensure all safety and industrial hygiene requirements are maintained.
* Utilize computers to look up and print out job-specific details. Compare information obtained on the computer to physical products.
* Work with members of a team to effectively complete work assignments. Receive information from team members regarding customer needs and product requirements and utilize this information to perform one's function.
* Perform routine preventative maintenance when required to ensure peak performance of all manufacturing equipment.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

* High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required.

* Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

* No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Sumter, SC will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Working knowledge of Lean concepts preferred.

* Computer literate preferred.

* Experience with spot welding, MIG, TIG or stick welding.

* Previous experience with cranes and forklifts preferred.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills, persuasive skills, and analytical problem solving skills with individuals and groups to effectively participate within team environment.

* Experience reading blueprint, manufacturing diagrams or drawings, or operating instructions.

* Experience with measuring devices (i.e. tape measure and calipers).

* While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach to or above shoulder level, grip, and use hands to handle and feel. The employee is frequently required to walk, stoop, lift; carry, push, pull, and grip.

* The employee is frequently required to lift/carry up to 35 pounds. The employee is frequently required to push/ pull up to or greater than 35 pounds.

* The vision requirements include far and close vision with depth perception and color discrimination. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to listen and talk.

Overview

2nd Shift

Reporting to the Welding Manager, the Spot Welder is primarily responsible for operating one or more spot or seam weld machines to fabricate or join metal parts following blueprint specifications and applying basic knowledge of spot welding fixtures and set up on parameters on a production basis.

Responsibilities

• Operate spot or seam welder to join parts by a series of spot welds or continuous seam weld.
• Work is diversified involving a variety and number of parts where assemblies may be clamped or involve holding jigs to control dimensional requirements.
• Determine number of welding points and contact cycles.
• Regulate current and set automatic timing devices if used.
• Rig equipment for holding and positioning work.
• Change and dress electrodes.
• Work from drawings, specifications, samples and templates.
• Use rule, square and fixed gauges.
• Instructions given on procedures and work is subject to process and final inspection.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous knowledge of fixtures and spot weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.)
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, welding symbols, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Basic understanding of computers and ability to perform computer functions as they pertain to the job.
• Demonstrated detail orientation, self-motivation skills and ability to multi-task
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measurement tools.
• Demonstrated competency in basic shop math.
• Ability to work with various types of metal forming constraints with guidance.
• Previous experience with overhead crane use is desired.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change.
• Work in an efficient and timely manner
• Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently
• Demonstrated detail orientation, self-motivation skills and ability to multi-task

Education and/or Experience

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED);
• Certificate or degree in welding is preferred;
• At least twelve months welding experience; thirty-six months preferred.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Successful completion of an internal welding test
