John Chae is Chief Medical Advisor at SPR Therapeutics. Dr. Chae serves as SPR Therapeutics’ Chief Medical Advisor and is presently Professor and Vice Chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University. He received his Bachelor of Science ('84) and Masters ('86) in Engineering from Duke University and Dartmouth College, respectively. He received his MD ('90) from New Jersey Medical School and clinical training in PM&R ('94) from New Jersey Medical School and Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. He completed the NIH sponsored Rehabilitation Medicine Scientist Training Program Fellowship ('98) at Case Western Reserve University. He is Director of Stroke Rehabilitation and Director of Research for the Department of PM&R and Associate Director of Clinical Affairs for the Cleveland Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Center. His research is funded by the NIH and focuses on the application of FES for neuroprostheses, neural plasticity and shoulder dysfunction in hemiplegia. He has received numerous awards, including the 2007 Braddom Research Award from the Association of Academic Physiatrists, which ''recognizes an individual who over the previous decade has…had the most significant impact on the science and practice of rehabilitation medicine.'' Dr. Chae was recently elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies and to the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. He also serves on the Advisory Council of NIH-NICHD and the Advisory Board of the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research at NIH-NICHD. He serves on the Editorial Boards of Archives of PM&R and Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair.
