    The primary responsibility of the Staff Medical Physicist will be to support clinical physics activities for Springfield Clinic operating in the Radiation Oncology Department at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. This includes development of new clinical programs, LINAC-based radiosurgery, LINAC-based SBRT, treatment planning support, machine and patient-specific QA, chart checking, and other clinical physics duties all in collaboration with providers, therapists, dosimetrists, and nursing. Job Relationships Reports to the Manager of Radiation Oncology Principal Responsibilities Provide clinical support for therapists, dosimetry, and physicians. This includes aiding in simulations, treatments, fusion checks, reviewing treatment plan, and reviewing composite plans which may include EQD2 evaluation. Performs routine patient chart checking Perform machine QA: annuals, monthlies, or when service is required Outline policies and procedures for clinical operations Perform/review/approve patient specific QA Attend Charts Rounds Provide remote physics support for afterhours emergent clinical setup patient treatments. Ensures a robust Physics component of Aria and utilizes the quality checklist for intra- and interdepartmental communication. Performs and/or assists dosimetry staff with patient-specific radiation measurements and calculations and assists in the selection and specification of any complex beam devices required to protect critical structures. Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training as required per policy. Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards. Perform other job duties as assigned. Education/Experience Master's degree or higher in a medical physics, physics, science, or engineering discipline recognized by an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester hours in medical physics, health physics, radiological science, physics, engineering, chemistry, or biology; or an equivalent foreign degree and coursework substantiated by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. Completion of an educational and/or residency program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) is strongly preferred. Have a minimum of two years of experience in a radiation oncology department (CAMPEP-accredited residency experience acceptable) Licenses/Certificates Board certification in the field of therapeutic medical physics is not required, however preference may be given to those applicants eligible for or actively maintaining certification by either the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) or American Board of Radiology (ABR). Register with or become registered with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), Division of Nuclear Safety and be authorized to engage in activities as a Therapeutic Radiation Physicist. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Advanced expertise and experience in the safe and efficient use of all radiotherapy devices for external beam radiotherapy. Advanced knowledge (treatment simulation, planning, dosimetry, and treatment methods) of the scientific, clinical, and technical applications of one or more specialized procedures including, but not limited to, stereotactic body radiation therapy, stereotactic radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, intensity modulated radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy, advanced image-guided therapy, and adaptive therapy. Advanced expertise in calibration procedures for a variety of ancillary radiation oncology delivery, imaging, dosimetry, and computational systems. Linear Accelerators: Varian Edge and Varian Truebeam Treatment Planning System: Eclipse Record and Verify System: ARIA SGRT: IDENTIFY Additional Software: MiM, Mobius, DotDecimal Working Environment Volumes range from 20-60 total patients per day, averaging ~25 patients per LINAC. Approximately 1- 5 SRS/SBRT patients per day. This position is a day shift position with partial remote opportunities. Will be exposed to conditions including exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials. Work to be performed inside; working around equipment with moving parts, working around and with electronic devices and electricity, working around moving objects; working closely with others.
